Hace 8 días –el 24 de febrero de 2025– falleció a los 88 años una de las más grandes estrellas de la música angloparlante, específicamente estadounidense, de ascendencia afroamericana, Roberta Flack. Fue notable representante como cantante, compositora y pianista en los géneros del soul, el rhythm and blues (R&B) y el jazz. También se dedicó a promover la educación musical, la defensa de los derechos del artista y la protección animal, a través de varias fundaciones o asociaciones que creara o impulsara.

Eight days ago, on February 24, 2025, one of the greatest stars of English-speaking music, specifically American music, of African-American descent, Roberta Flack, died at the age of 88. She was a notable representative as a singer, composer, and pianist in the genres of soul, rhythm and blues (R&B), and jazz. She also dedicated herself to promoting musical education, the defense of artists' rights, and animal protection, through various foundations or associations that she created or promoted.

En nuestros años mozos disfrutamos cantando, bailando y hasta enamorándonos con sus canciones, que tuvieron un fuerte éxito comercial y gran difusión discográfica, radial, televisiva e incluso en ciertos filmes. Todos los que dábamos nuestros primeros pasos en el universo mundano de la música, del amor y la seducción juvenil, del mundo nocturno, allá en la década de los años 70, no dejábamos de escucharla y bailarla bien pegaditos.

In our younger years we enjoyed singing, dancing and even falling in love with her songs, which were a great commercial success and were widely broadcast on record, radio, television and even in certain films. Esta canción fue compuesta en 1957 por Ewan MacColl para quien sería su esposa, Peggy Seeger. Pero fue con la versión de Roberta Flack entre 1971 y 1972, convirtiéndose en un gran éxito popular. Había sido usada por Clint Eastwood en el primer filme que dirigiera: "Play Misty for Me" (“Escalofrío en la noche”, en español). Recibiría el Premio Grammy por Canción del Año en 1973.

This song was composed in 1957 by Ewan MacColl for his future wife, Peggy Seeger. But it was with Roberta Flack's version between 1971 and 1972, becoming a great popular hit. Canción perteneciente a los compositores Charles Fox y Norman Gimbel, hecha en 1971. Luego de dos años sería interpretada por Roberta Flack, otorgándole un gran auge comercial. Fue galardonada en 1974 por el American Music Award y los Premios Grammy.
