Greetings!
This time my post will be different. Today there will be no reviews of music albums, but a conversation (or rather, a bit of history) about the musical genre.
Let experts argue with me, but I consider progressive metal to be one of the most interesting genres that has ever existed. Although ... you can add another psychedelic to this list, which many do not remember now.
Musical progress is rapid. In certain niches, this evolution is provoked by fashion, and in some niches it is a flight of fancy and soul.
The current generation of musical groups is in a not very pleasant situation. A long time ago, everything was invented before us, and creating something really new is an almost impossible task. You can only get into the flow, sing something relevant, but the founder of a new, truly original genre is unlikely.
But on the other hand, this hardened ground allows you to start building something unique. Experience, zeal and experiments help in this without fail.
Progressive metal is something like this unique design that every generation builds on. The genre originates back in the 80s and is a symbiosis of several currents of that time at once.
Over the years, bands such as Queensrÿche, Dream Theater and Crimson Glory began to emerge, mixing prog metal with avant-garde, power, hard rock and other styles that had not been combined before.
In general, the hands of progressive metal are quite long and catch on dozens of musical styles. It is this tenacity and versatility of the genre that allows musicians to bring more and more of their ideas into it, while boldly working with them.
Some of them manage to combine jazz, blues and my favorite polyrhythmic riffs in their creations.
In modern times, there are hundreds of bands that skillfully play in the genres of prog-metal and mat-metal, which are characterized by rhythmic breaks. Naturally, it's hard to remember everyone, you won't listen to everything, and not everyone really deserves the attention and time of the listener.
Progressive metal requires maximum precision from a musician. Professionalism, I would say, is the main thing, since the members of all prog groups are virtuosos and masters. It is not always possible to make out the musical message in this chaos. But if the ears are well trained, you will understand everything yourself.
This style is not for the elite, but for connoisseurs of original music and with a good imagination.
Prog metal was not popular in the early 2000s. Only in recent years have more bands turned to this genre. Now a new wave has begun with already new symbioses, an admixture of groove, metalcore, death metal, djent has appeared. It is quite difficult to compare the music that young musicians are writing now with that which used to be classified as prog-metal.
It was experimental text. I hope it was interesting and will not be left without your attention. Many thanks to every reader who has reached the end of the text.
