It's Friday again, and it's a rainy day (here). Whether a real spring is coming after this rain we don't know yet, but what is certain is that we have a #newtunes suggestion, fresh music to listen to for the weekend and beyond.
Well-known and lesser-known musicians want to get closer to us with their creations and completely take over.
You might even like something and browse in more detail later. They certainly deserve a few minutes of your time. But if you don't like something, just skip it.

PJ Harvey - Seem an I
PJ Harvey is my favorite artist and I don't miss any of her new releases. Mostly. This song, Seem an I, is from her latest album 'I Inside the Old Year Dying' and the video for this song is new and premiered a couple of days ago. There's nothing special to say, old school, the song goes quickly to the ear, and the lyrics are multi-sensual, as is usual with this songwriter.
Ibaaku - Jazz Griots
Stephen Ibaaku Bassene is a producer, singer, sometimes rapper, and interdisciplinary artist from Dakar, Senegal. At the beginning of February, he released his second album Joola Jazz, a rhythmically experimental, rich, and pulsating polyrhythmic music inspired by recent African sounds, more electronic than not, but also flirting with jazz harmonies.
The song I chose for the presentation, Jazz Griots, goes in this direction the most.
Alison Burik - Be the Dragon
Allison Burik is a composer and musician who works primarily on alto saxophone and bass clarinet, improvises in various jazz ensembles (Bellbird, Umbrella Pine), and, also, composes and teaches. She currently lives in Montreal. She released her debut album Realm at the beginning of February this year.
Be The Dragon is the first song from the album, where a playful saxophone line gradually unwinds to the accompaniment of voice calls, which are simultaneously elicited from her own body using thoughtfully placed contact microphones.
The song is, in the artist's own words, "a tribute to all women and people with fluid gender identities who have struggled in the past to resist the gender roles expected at the time."
IDLES - GIFT HORSE
Idles is a post-punk band from Bristol, UK. I've mentioned them a few times in #newtunes and now, with the release of their new album TANGK, their fifth in a row, I'm not going to bypass them. Unlike their previous albums, they haven't lost the directness that makes the public love them, but have added more electronic sounds in the production and the blending of different dynamics. So they don't just present destructive rage like on previous albums, but weave an ambiance with a sense of detail, and developing melodic lines.
Still Corners - The Dream
Still Corners is an English-American dream-pop duo that has been performing since 2007. In April they will release their sixth album Dream Talk, from which this song is taken. The sound and style of the band are unchanged on the new album, even more refined, aesthetically sophisticated, and calm, maybe really turbo-dreamy.
Moby X Anfisa Letyago - You & Me
Moby is a legendary American electronic music producer, I've mentioned him a few times in my weekly #newtunes if anyone doesn't know him (yet), and here he and Anfisa Letyaga present their latest single with a deep house feel, magical piano and ultra-sensitive vocal interpretation.
Xavier Rudd - World Order
Xavier Rudd is an Australian composer and multi-instrumentalist who has been performing since 2000 and has released ten studio albums to date. He is known for his commitment to the Australian Aboriginal people, the environment, humanity and social sensitivity. Maybe I've forgotten a bit about him, but his latest EP Freedom Sessions, featuring the song World Order, is out at the end of March.
Ekatarina Velika - Par godina za nas
Ekatarina Velika, or EKV for short, was in my opinion (and not only in my opinion, but that's always a matter of discussion...) the best rock band from the ex-Yugoslavia area. This band had a really sad fate, for twenty years there is no one left among the living. I've mentioned them in some of my posts. 35 years have passed since the release of their album 'Par Godina Za Nas' (A Few Years For Us, in English), and for this anniversary their label has restored the video and remastered the sound for the song of the same name. The premiere took place the day before yesterday.
The song talks about the current loss of people living in Yugoslavia and how many people do not see the future. So you live from today to tomorrow. They were like prophets ...

I want to start with what you put at the very end.
When I was on my first trip to Yugoslavia, with a thousand and one questions in my head, I was given this piece of advice. You can carry plenty of questions in your head, but you shouldn't burn your tongue with them.
Your precise choice fits in with this.
Like a Swiss clockwork — always accurate to the second in the finest way. She delivers the question of the year on the album: Are you Elvis? Are you God?
Great album, "Ñiini" and "Nuit à Yaoundé" are my favourites.
If you're in a romantic mood, stay away from this album. You won't find the definition of love.
Here comes almost the opposite of the Idles. Romance with a touch of Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes - this time with a feminine influence.
I used to think I should wait until my first yoga class before buying his albums. And it's probably going to stay that way.
But did you move when it was still YU or later? In those days, from 89-95, it wasn't very pleasant... we were lucky that everything settled down quickly... yes, music is always a reflection of the time in which it is made...
As far as African musicians are concerned, I like that there is a second generation coming up that is mixing their traditional music with modern genres but in a different way, as a kind of fusion and partial destruction...
Haha, but this Xavier Rudd is still a nice guy (svakog dana u svakom pogledu sve više napreduje - ako znaš za tu legendarnu rečenicu - iz filma Sećaš li se Dolly Bell), I listened to him more years ago when he was still playing didgeridoo and less singing
