A test of simplicity and growth

Having to pack just a single suitcase for a whole year feels like a challenge, a challenge to let go of comfort and live with less, also a challenge to let go of those "Just in case items". But it can also be an invitation, an invitation to reconnect with what really matters.

So if I have to pack this suitcase I think I'd be asking myself "what can I not live without " and what are the essential things I need?

So here's a list of what I think will be going into the suitcase:

A few versatile clothes

I can comfortably type this part but in reality when I make a trip I'm tempted to take all my favorite clothes, and I do have a lot of favorites when it comes to clothes, but from a minimalist aspect which im also really learning and applying, here's a list of what I think I'll put in that suitcase:

  • 3 plain t-shirts
  • 2 trousers (one black, one denim)
  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 1 hoodie
  • 1 comfortable dresses (for variety/formal)
  • Underwear (quick-dry, enough for a week)
  • One pair of slippers and sneakers

2. Digital tools

Ok so thankfully I don't have much digital tools, so I only have to take:

  • My phone
  • My power bank
  • My charger

3. Hygiene + Health

For this part I'll have to take:

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant
    Nail clipper
  • Small first aid pouch (painkillers, plasters)
  • Menstrual pads
  • Small insect repellent

Personal Items

  • A small notebook + pen
  • Water bottle
  • A compact towel
  • A tiny sewing kit
  • My special necklace

The Deciding Factor

The biggest factor that would influence my decision on what to carry along would be versatility, things that serve multiple purposes, that are durable, lightweight and also adaptable. I'll focus on most likely things I may need and not the "what if's".
I'd also like to carry along with me an open heart, curiosity and flexibility because I think one year away is not just a test of what I can carry, but how much I can grow, how well I can adapt, and how deeply I can appreciate the little things.

So yes… maybe this suitcase isn’t just about travel , maybe it’s about transformation

Bravo! This is a fabulous attitude! 💖

Thank you Ms Kitty ❤️

Brilliant suitcase with that special necklace and I love your attitude about curiosity and transformation. I think there would be a time when you realise some things you need not have brought!

Thank you so much! 😊 That necklace means a lot to me, so it definitely had to make it into the suitcase. I appreciate your kind words about the curiosity and transformation part. That really is the heart of it for me. 💛

You are so very welcome, and I do love that heart of it!

Versatility is crucial when packing - regardless if you're going to be gone for a year or only a week :) It just makes everything much easier, no? And props for the open heart - by far the most important factor to carry with you wherever you go. <3

Absolutely! Versatility really does make life so much easier—fewer items, less stress, and more freedom to just be. 😊 And yes, thank you for mentioning the open heart, it feels like the one thing that never adds weight but somehow carries everything else. 💛 Sending love your way! ✨

Thank you!

When I read shirt and trouser, I thought it was a guy thing. But nay. It’s a lady. You go the essentials pack in. I won’t lie. And if I am to pack too. I will put those gadgets first even before my clothes 😂

Lol the gadgets are really important especially the power bank, as we no know when Nepa fit bring light 🙃

You have carefully packed your briefcase and it's a smart one. Instead taking too much, we can go with little and get the things we might need when we arrive at our destination.
