Reflecting on Growth and Opportunity

in The MINIMALISTlast month

Life is a journey that's bound to change at every given point in time, and as I reflect on my life this time last year, I can't help but stand in awe at the mind-blowing difference, growth, and improvement I've made between those times. While some might think it's easy to achieve this, I personally feel I was able to achieve this feast due to some contributing factors that I talked about in this article.

Looking back to where I was last year, I'm thrilled and in awe at how far I've come and the improvements that have taken shape through the years. As of this time last year, I was still a little bit new to this place, which I relocated to months earlier, and that kind of marks me struggling to chase and actualize my passion for farming in this new place as I navigate these unfamiliar surroundings and the absence of enough space to farm.
Fast forward to the present day, and I'm excited by the remarkable changes. I've been able to secure a bigger space to farm, and this is a step forward compared to where I was this time last year. This isn't only an improvement based on me securing land to farm but also on my personal development and resilience spirit of not giving up on what I love doing.

I remember this time last year after toiling around the neighborhood without positive results on securing a place to farm, I had to make do with the small space I've got behind the house I stay, and that really limits the quality of seeds and crops I could plant because the space is that big, but this year I was able to see someone who leased a plot of land to me for free for the sake of farming.

Before, I dived into the factors. I guess it's best I first share a short story on how I was able to secure this piece of land, so after planting some crops like maize, cassava, and vegetables In the small pieces of land around my house, I continue to tend it till it's ready for harvest, and when it does, my neighbors do beg to plug in some vegetables from my farm, which I agree to. When it was time to harvest the maize and cassava, I gave out many to my neighbors, as my purpose of farming is just to reduce amounts I spent on food items and nothing commercial.

This gesture of mine led a neighbor to ask why I'm making use of that small space when it's obvious I love farming, and I told her, It's all I've got, and I haven't been able to secure a bigger space, and she said alright. Fast forward to January this year, and she told me about a piece of land that the owner has no intention of using anytime soon and if I'll be willing to use it for my farming. I gladly accepted the offer, and that was how the land came by, and below I highlighted the factors that contribute to this improvement.

  • Perseverance: Despite all the challenges I face due to my being new to this place and my inability to secure a bigger space to farm, I didn't let that pull me down and restrain me from embarking on something I love, which now brings about growth. I believe it was my perseverance in making do with the smaller space that brought about this bigger one. Had I given up and refused to do anything until I secured a big space, then this might never have been a reality.

  • Human support: I've been able to attain this new height that grants me the opportunity to plant more crops, which will bring about a greater harvest, all thanks to some supportive networks of neighbors and friends I've got around me. Although I think my kind gesture towards them played a part, if I hadn't had them to guide, advise, and encourage me, I wouldn't be in the position I'm in presently because it was during one of those discussions that this opportunity showed up.

  • Adaptability: Although I'm an introvert, I know not being flexible in these new surroundings could restrain me from doing what I love, so I tried as much as possible to be flexible, adapting to change and learning, and that has helped me overcome different challenges that come my way, and with that, I was also able to not only see opportunities but also seize them as they show forth.

In a nutshell, I'm super excited and proud of my achievements. I believe this is a testament to my resilience, ability to adapt to new surroundings, the support I've gotten from those around me, and my perseverance. These are the key factors that aided my growth and brought about improvements to my life that were better than they were this time last year.

That's about it for now. I hope you enjoyed the read. Do have a wonderful day and stay blessed.
