Early Morning Street Photography in Belgrade

How are you doing everyone? I finally had a good few hours of street photography this morning - the sun was out and hitting nicely, it wasn't too cold, the streets alive and I could relax since I had nothing else to do at the moment.

The main pedestrian street of Belgrade, Knez Mihailova, where most of the people drift to, is a bit challenging for street photography. It is surrounded on both sides by tall buildings, modern and old, and so it is often unreachable for the sunlight. It's usually very dark and non-flattering to the people's faces and in general not interesting.

Exceptions are early morning when the sun directly travels through the street and late afternoon when the rays come from the side and create patches of light in-between buildings. You can see how bright it was this morning, it's a bit boring but towards the sides you can play with lights and shadows for some interesting compositions.

It's funny how almost all photos I took are in portrait orientation and it's a trend for a while now. When I just started I was photographing almost exclusively photographing in a landscape mode, usually getting close to people and capturing their gestures. Social media unfortunately has some influence in it given that mobile devices demand this change.

But I also like to shoot vertical to avoid any distractions on the side (which on the streets there are plenty, things like trash bins, billboards, other people...) and keep the subject more tightly framed in the composition. Anyway, I hope you like the captures. They are taken with Fuji X-Pro2 + 35mm F/2.

Cool photos! I liked them all. Especially with two reflections on the walls of the escalator.

Thank you very much! :)
