Exploring the fortress and contemplating on ancient warriors

Good to see you again, fellow Hiver! Coming to you as soon as I can, when my circumstances allow for a new post. We will spend this one at the Kalemegdan fortress and explore it from many different sides. And as you know me, I will look for human subjects around to showcase the scale of those walls.

I've recently spoke to a friend about how it feels like being in such a place that went through so much history and saw people from all generations walk on its grounds. Fortresses and battle scenes on one hand, and castles and churches on the other. I always feel strong energy there, as if the ancients left something behind as they fought or prayed. There's a particular scene in a 1989 Kickboxer movie where the protagonist hears voices and sword clashing of long gone warriors as he trains on ancient ruins, which inspired me to write about this.

Energy can't be destroyed, it can only change form. So I guess everyone who is willing to, can absorb some of the aura of such places. That's why they are always popular and remain so during centuries. It's important to preserve little of those monuments that were not ruined by the brutality and carelessness of modern world and those who push it.

It's good to see more and more young people climbing up fortress walls and spending their afternoon there. We must not forget our ancestors and where we came from, because they speak through us and can never be separate. In order to move in a better direction, planet-wise, we must preserve its history.

Треба да дођеш у Смедерево кад се окупе витезови на турниру, @alcibiades :)

Imacu to u vidu. :) Svakako sam skoro razmisljao da posetim Smederevsku tvrdjavu.

What great pictures! It's very similar to the style I identify with, between cinematic and moody styles, I think. Plus that awesome structure 😍 I'm fascinated. Awesome work 💪🏻

Thank you very much! Nicely said, I also like to make my photos both cinematic and moody. :)

Great images as always. I've been there, years ago though, in 2011, my first visit of a country outside of the ex-Soviet area, my first hostel. A month in Belgrade, renting an apartment with a friend, visits to Smederevo and Nish, hitchhiking to Skopje / Ohrid, Macedonia, a trip to Kotor, Montenegro. Good memories.

Awesome! You've visited some must-see places from Balkan, each with something unique to offer. Nice that you dedicated plenty of time to get the feel of the area.

This is what I did every time. Less cities, more time in each city.

Really great work. Love the composition and the framing. The atmosphere is magic. Congrats

Thank you very much! :)

Yes, historical places have a special vibe. :) Glad you liked the photos!
