📷 City tour in the freezing cold

Hello dear friends,

The beautiful snowy landscape has been a thing of the past for a week now. We had quite pleasant temperatures and lots of sunshine last week, so I went out on my mountain bike a few times. Nevertheless, I'd like to add a few - in my opinion - nice pictures from my walk through Wertheim am Main in the freezing cold.

Hallo liebe Freunde,

die wunderschöne Schneelandschaft gehört nun seit einer Woche bereits wieder der Vergangenheit an. Wir hatten vergangene Woche recht angenehme Temperaturen und viel Sonnenschein, so daß ich ein paar mal mit dem Mountainbike auf Tour war. Trotzdem möchte ich nun noch ein paar - wie ich finde - schöne Bilder von meinem Stadtrundgang durch Wertheim am Main bei klirrender Kälter nachliefern.

Wertheim was built in the Middle Ages and used to have a town wall. Only a few parts of the town wall still exist today. However, they have been cleverly integrated into the modern townscape, as shown here.grew up.

Wertheim ist ja bereits im Mittelalter entstanden und hatte früher eine Stadtmauer. Von der Stadtmauer existieren heute nur noch wenige Teile. Allerdings hat man sie - wie hier - geschickt in das moderne Stadtbild integriert.

The spire of Wertheim is also one of the striking landmarks that should immediately catch the visitor's eye alongside the castle. In my youth, someone was actually allowed to hold a party there. For fire safety reasons, however, it was a one-off event. I didn't particularly like the party, but from today's perspective I think it was "funny" to have been there. ;-)

Der Spitze Turm von Wertheim ist auch eines der markanten Wahrzeichen, das neben der Burg dem Besucher sofort ins Auge stechen sollte. In meiner Jugendzeit ist es tatsächlich mal jemandem gelungen, dort eine Feier veranstalten zu dürfen. Aus Brandschutzgründen war das allerdings eine einmalige Sache. Ich fand die Feier nicht sonderlich gut, finde es allerdings retrospektiv gesehen trotzdem lustig, mit dabei gewesen zu sein.

I have not yet presented the so-called Packhof crane in my blog. It was designed in 1896 by the Unger brothers' machine factory and had a lifting capacity of 5,000 kilos with a radius of 6.0 meters. The crane was needed for loading and unloading the Main ships that once docked on this bank. Today, only cruise ships that bring many visitors to Wertheim dock here.

Den sogenannten Packhof Kran habe ich bislang noch nicht in meinem Blog vorgestellt. Er wurde 1896 von der Maschinenfabrik der Gebrüder Unger entworfen und verfügte über eine Tragfähigkeit von 5000 Kilo bei einer Ausladung von 6,0 Metern. Der Kran wurde zum Be- und Entladen der Mainschiffe benötigt, die an dieser Uferstelle einst anlegten. Heute legen nur noch Kreuzfahrtschiffe an, die viele Besucher nach Wertheim bringen.

Not far from the crane, you have a good view across the Main to the Bavarian town of Kreuzwertheim, which is slightly older than Wertheim, which is now in Baden-Württemberg. The dominant building is the headquarters of the Spessart brewery. Behind it you can see the castle of Kreuzwertheim. Down by the Main, next to the beer garden (where the red English bus is parked), is a popular place for campers to park their caravans and motorhomes for two days. From there you have a great view of Wertheim and its castle. However, there is also a lack of shade in summer.

Unweit des Krans hat man einen guten Blick über den Main auf das bayrische Kreuzwertheim, das etwas älter als Wertheim, das heute in Baden-Württemberg liegt, ist. Das dominante Gebäude ist der Sitz der Spessart Brauerei. Dahinter sieht man das Schloß von Kreuzwertheim. Unten am Main, neben dem Biergarten (dort, wo der rote englische Bus steht), ist ein beliebter Platz für Camper, die dort ihre Wohnwagen und Wohnmobile für 2 Tage abstellen können. Von dort hat man einen tollen Blick auf Wertheim mit seiner Burg. Allerdings fehlt im Sommer auch Schatten.
