📷 Incredible Chanterelle Findings

Hello dear friends,

In the past few days we have had warm, but also very rainy early summer weather. This is ideal for mushroom growth. And so I've spent the last few days out and about in the local woods looking for chanterelles. And what can I say? My expectations were massively exceeded. I haven't found this many chanterelles for several years.

Hallo liebe Freunde,

It is often reported that the chanterelle has become rare. In any case, it is not as abundant in every region as it is here. In this photo you can see that even very large specimens can survive uncollected in the woods. I also always leave small specimens in their habitat so that they can continue to sprout.

🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄

However, I have also observed that the closer you get to the settlements, the more the coveted chanterelles are collected. As if mushroom locusts were travelling through the forest. Fortunately, I was in the forest at the right time this year and saw where the best spots were in the immediate vicinity. I saw a lot of mushroom pickers who knew exactly where to look. In conversations with one mushroom hunter I was confirmed that this year we have really optimal conditions for the chanterelle. In previous years, which were rather dry at this time, the others didn't have nearly as good finds as this week.

🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄

I like to collect woodruff as a natural source of fragrance for our car.

Of course, we also ate the chanterelles...yummy... ;-)

Das Essen war angerichtet...lecker... ;-)

I also came across this blindworm. I moved it from the forest path into the forest because I nearly ran it over with my bike.

My first larch bolete find in 2024.

Der erste Goldröhrling 2024.

And if the yellow stagshorn can also be seen in the coniferous forest, the first ceps (buletus edulis) could also be found very soon. Especially if the weather remains as favourable as it is now.

I often do my mushroom tours by bike. This quickly adds up to a distance of 30 kilometres. This is quite strenuous - even with a pedelec, so I work up a good sweat. That's why I like to end a tour with a swim in a quarry pond. That way I come home feeling fresh again.

🌄 🕊 🕊 🌄

Dabei kommen schnell 30 km an gefahrener Strecke zusammen.

Great find!
Wish I knew a bit more about edible mushrooms.
So far, I can only identify the umbrella/parasol mushroom for sure.
Eating foraged chantarelles sounds awesome and delicious!

Fun fact: I foraged some bamboo shoots, this morning ( just like my friends @samstonehill and @clareartista have been doing, recently ), for the very first time.

I am cooking them, right this moment, and it starts to smell amazing. Am about to hike to the river beach, later this afternoon. Will be on the lookout for mushrooms there, although it has been quite dry, lately. Rain is approaching though, so next week might be a different story.

Great post!✨

Fried Parasol mushrooms can easily replace a schnitzel. :-)
yummy

I must admit that I struggled a bit to prepare them well ( they often seemed to humid ) and I have tried a handful of times in the last 5 years or so. Any advice?

I would always fry or deep-fry the parasol mushroom like a schnitzel. Like any mushroom, the parasol must not be too old, otherwise there is a risk of secondary mushroom poisoning. It's never a good idea to eat old protein ;-)

This cook explains it really well. Ok, the colleague is from Austria, so the video is in German. But basically you can see what to do.

Cheers for the advice!
Deutsch ist kein Problem für mich. I had 6 years of it in high school ( as I am from The Netherlands ) and it's one of the easiest languages for me to understand.

Vielen Dank!✨

I love Chantrelles and they are certainly my favorite mushroom to eat. I love the color of them in nature and here in Sweden they are colloquially called 'Forrest Gold' and the spots are coveted by those that hunt them. Hope we get more this year!

Yes, the Forest Gold fits. I was also so pleased to have discovered the forest gold vein ;-)

Wonderful pictures 👍

What an incredible chanterelle haul! Your excitement and passion for foraging shine through. These golden treasures are a true testament to nature’s bounty. Happy cooking! 🍄

Golden treasures - that's right ;-)
