A visit to Palmitos Park, Gran Canaria

in Pinmapplelast year (edited)

Hi all and Happy new year.

I thought I'd start the year off with one of my first sets from Gran Canaria, a visit to Palmitos Park near Maspalomas heading into the mountain range.

Now Palmitos Park is a Zoo and one where, if you go by my photo bias, only has birds!😁
Although I have managed to include other types of animals as well to show it is more then just a bird park. And should give everyone an idea of what to expect if they ever wish to visit here when in Gran Canaria.

So we shall start with a Squirrel Monkey! totally not a bird!

lorikeets happen to be one of my favourite from the small parrot group, like this Rainbow Lori here.

Which I've included a few images of so their wonderful plumage and colouring can be seen.

As I have mentioned though it isn't all birds, as we can see with this Giant Tortoise.

But Birds of Prey were a big part of of the park.

Such as this Eagle Owl that was about to launch into flight

Or this Vulture already taken flight

Hopefully this one will give a good idea of the size of the bird, and an idea of its possible strength.

And a break from the birding, and with an Alligator chilling by the waterfall

Now I might have found Hedwig! for the Harry Potter fans out there.

Or otherwise known as a Snowy Owl

A return to the parrot world with this African Gray

This unusual looking one is a Red Crested Turaco

Now this was a rather bird heavy set, but again for those visiting Gran Canaria then a visit to this park is a worthy escape, plus it has the advantage of no Cell signal or wifi so you can enjoy it all without the trappings of having to look or share on social media!

Anyhow, a welcome to 2023, and there will be more of Gran Canaria to follow!
