Twilight at Balchik on the Black Sea

Twilight, according to dictionaries, means the time between sunset and dark. It is also called crepuscule. Figuratively it also means old age or the end of life. Clearly, this is not something optimistic and full of life, quite the contrary. I read somewhere that most suicides occur at twilight, but I'm not putting my hand in the fire that this is true, I mean I didn't check with several sources, I took the information as such because I liked it.

Twilight is not only important for old people and suicides. Painters and photographers are also very interested. It's about the special light of twilight, which no longer comes directly from the sun. It comes from the reflection of the sun's rays below the horizon.

Balchik is a small town on the Black Sea, a city, and a holiday resort. Moreover, there are two exceptional sights that attract tourists. The Castle of Queen Mary of Romania and the Botanical Garden, with a unique collection of cacti. I almost forgot the sea. The Black Sea!

Balchik is my favorite place to spend holidays, longer or shorter. I have visited this city many times and, fortunately, I still find new things to discover. Balchik is primarily made for walking, less for bathing in the sea or the beach. A few kilometers long promenade along the sea is the ideal place for walking.

It's the evening walks at twilight that I like best. These walks are a reason to observe both the sea and the people, they are a good reason to take photos. The special light, soft and golden, the last rays of the sun reflected by the clouds, bring a shade of pink that doesn't last long.

This special and short-lived light is hunted by painters and photographers alike. Painters I haven't seen much of late but photographers are many!

The color of the sea changes rapidly as the sun sinks below the horizon and night approaches. A photographer has set up his tripod right at the limit where the sea water reaches, surely aiming to capture this change of colors reflected on the waves.

As darkness falls, the city lights come on. This is the signal that twilight is over.

With darkness comes the emptying of the pedestrian walkway. Fewer and fewer walkers.

The sky still looks like the sun was there not so long ago.

Twilight and Balchik. This combination is very dear to me. Twilight reminded me of Balchik and Balchik reminded me of the holiday that was only two months ago.
I look forward to winter. Then it won't be long before I have twilight and a walk-in Balchik again!
