Sunset is an everyday sight that is often admired. We recently had the opportunity to watch a particularly exciting performance.

The bright colors took my breath away.
But how to explain all the nuances happening in the sky at that moment?
The colors depend on the distance that the sun's rays need to travel.

Basically, light is made up of wavelengths, each of which ranges from purple to red. Blue light has one of the shortest wavelengths and is better diffused in the atmosphere.

This is one of the reasons why blue is predominant during the day, as the sun's rays hit the Earth more directly.
However, when the sun goes down, its rays must travel a greater distance in the atmosphere and therefore collide with an additional obstacle.
When the Sun approaches the horizon, at sunrise and sunset, the thickness of the atmosphere through which the rays must pass becomes 10-15 times greater.

The blue is so scattered that there is almost no remaining, so it gives way to warm tones.

The colors at sunset change from day to day, in part due to weather conditions.

Air humidity and clouds are factors to consider. Any obstruction can increase or decrease color scatter.

Distance, weather conditions and cloud cover are all obstacles that affect the colors of the sky at sunset. And also one of the significant influences is produced by pollution. The more polluted the air, the more dark red hues appear.

Thus, the colors seen at sunset are, in a sense, a combination of circumstances. We can only hope for the best of them.
