My first attempts at calligraphy light painting

Hello HIVEs!

Calligraphy is also used in light painting. With light painting, the decorative characters and not the letters are often in the foreground. I would like to develop further in this area as well and dare to venture into the genre from time to time. I found that this technique can be used in a variety of ways. Learning this technique takes a lot of time and practice. I would like to share my first attempts with you here.

As already mentioned in my post

In search of abandoned places in Barcelona for Lightpainting Part 2 I created the flames in the following image using a calligraphy tool. Inspired by Marc Sellarès ephemeral artwork he created to remind the world of the 2015 fire disaster.

Initially, a total of 1,293 crosses were erected, one for each hectare destroyed in the fire. The crosses are made from the wood of the burnt pine trees that used to stand here.
Before the forest fire, wine was grown here and charcoal was produced. A few vineyard barracks and old charcoal pits can still be seen between the crosses.

My idea was to recreate the fire in a somewhat abstract way using calligraphy shapes. I built the tool for this according to instructions from @lichtkunstfoto. I illuminated the scene with an LEDLenser P7R Signature.

Ballet Dancer

Ballet Dancer was intended to be a series of abstract, dancing figures. I had prepared some sketches for it. Unfortunately, only this one attitude has emerged from it so far. So there is still a lot to do. In the following picture I used a Magilight with Mini Stick as a calligraphy tool. I drew three lines into the picture and thus converted my sketch into light painting. I made the sketch with two colored markers to plan the order and the sequence of movements. As mentioned above, with a lot of practice and perseverance, I finally got these results.

Soviet Air Base

I attempted calligraphy with @lichtkunstfoto in a disused Soviet air base. In the picture below, @lichtkunstfoto operated the camera and lit the scene. I used a calligraphy tool to place the character in the scene.

Calligraphy Tools

Below you can see the calligraphy tools used. The first picture shows the DIY tool. With both tools, I can use different programs to select the number and colors or color combinations of the LEDs and set the brightness from 0 -100%. With the Magilight from Fotorgear, in the second picture, different flashing modes and color changes can also be selected. However, the homemade calligraphy tool feels much better in the hand and is lighter than the Magilight tool. In addition, the DIY tool takes up less space. The Magilight from Fotorgear can be used universally for this. You can use blades, fiber and pixel sticks with it.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

These are incredible @candelart - I wasn't aware about light painting and happened upon this post with calligraphy being a bonus.

Discovered it on VEEWS and I shared it on LEOThreads

Definitely worth the share.

Never heard of it before but I love it! Your pictures are really beautiful and inspiring. I espcially like the ballet dancer one, very nice idea.

Thank you! I hope to be able to show more ballet dancers in different attitudes soon.

😲 Creativity is truly infinite

Thanks😊 I hope so😉

Ha, das mal was anderes.

Man this is next level creativity! Perfect calligraphy and idea behind it. !LUV it.

Don't know how this looks being seen by professionals but on my end I think it's a great start and that you did a great job! Well done!

Thanks very much!

I don't know much about calligraphy light painting but I can say your first attempt is fantastic. I like how you recreated the fire and ballet dancer images. This is nice.

With more practice comes perfection, I think. 😃 Thanks for sharing. 😊😊

Thanks! For me it is the greatest gift if you like my post.😊

Wow!... I like a lot the result you achieved in "result you achieved in "El Bosc de les Creus"... This confrontation of photography with the addition of painted light... It is a wonderful thing to see in a single shot... Weel done friend @candelart!

Thanks! Yes, at this location I had an inspiration. In the end, the story that happened in this place has been photographed. I'm happy when I use it to address others.

You just created a perfect piece of work. You are perfect in this.

Thanks! I'm still a long way from perfect. But nice if you like it. It motivates me to keep going.

Sieht wirklich toll aus!💯

Danke!😊

Yay! 🤗

Very interesting (and the tools that were used, I did not epect that).

Light painting is a very beautiful thing. You can also have a lot of fun making tools. Some tools develop over months. It is therefore important to exchange ideas here.
