FROM HERE AND THERE #2 • SUNSETS [ENG-SPA]

How many sighs, reflections and thoughts have awakened those last rays of daylight. How many joys and sorrows it will have witnessed. Who would not stop to admire this beautiful picture of nature. I have seen thousands of sunsets, all extraordinary and if I could, I would have photographed each and every one of them. Unfortunately I have not always had a camera at hand. In the following lines I leave you a small compendium of some sunsets that I have witnessed in various parts of the world. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

You could say that it is a typical twilight, but here we see the last moments of the evening in the vicinity of St. Peter's Basilica. The almost cloudless sky and the lights of the city and the basilica already lit allow us to appreciate the details of the whole scene.

Victoria Island was one of the places I visited the most during my stay in Canada and for that reason you will see several images of its beautiful sunsets. This scenery left me speechless.

As the ferry ride back to Vancouver began, so did the sunset. Since I didn't have a filter for this occasion, I decided not to photograph the sun directly and instead achieved this image that shows the intensity of the light.

The intensity of the colors, the reflection and the swaying of the waters give a hypnotic sensation.
See that there is a well marked differentiation between the different sunsets in Victoria Island. In one of the trips the colors are more neutral, earthy or autumnal if you want to give an adjective. On the other hand, the photos from this trip are more striking and vivid. The difference in color saturation is significant and that is what makes them special, don't you think?

At more than 2,000 m above sea level, on a visit to the top of the mountain that protects the city of Caracas, I took this high contrast photo where you can see in the background a cumulus of clouds that block the visibility of the city and the characteristic tones of a setting sun.

During the day the color of this landscape is very different. The sky and the sea merge into an almost infinite blue, but at sunset, the color of the sky changes radically to beautiful orange, almost brick-colored tones that combine in perfect harmony with gray and bluish tones.

During the ferry ride we encountered another boat. The sunset was beginning to fade in the sky. See those warm orange reflections beginning to merge with the blue of the sky.

During my stay in Vancouver I was staying on the north side, so I had to navigate every day to get to downtown where I was doing my activities at the English institute. One day, upon returning to North Vancouver, I decided to walk around a bit and admire the city from afar and this is one of those moments at sunset.

In this image you can see the cloud cushion that covers the city of Caracas and towards the left side part of the mountain rises above.

As we rolled along, in the middle of the rocky mountains, a spectacular sky with orange sparkles reflected on the surface of a lake.

The blue of the sky is no longer the protagonist. The colors become pastels and are also reflected in the water in this panoramic shot of the Vancouver Downtown from North Vancouver.

In this other view towards the city, the brightly colored pastels have disappeared and are now more gray. A small orange light predominates in flashes throughout the scene.

A lit sky contrasts everything else in this zoom shot of part of the marina and Lions Gate Bridge.

As the minutes go by, the pastel and grayish colors of the sky become more intense. The color of the sky transformed into a dark blue tone that would soon become black and the few lights in the distance look like fire behind the mountains and trees.

In the month of August I usually go to the beach for at least a week. Our favorite destination is located 400 km from the capital and is by far one of the most beautiful tropical spots in Venezuela. At sunset, as we were leaving the National Park, I took this picture from the car. The final colors of the sunset were already beginning to give way to the twilight.

I think this is one of the most intense sunsets I have been able to observe. The fact that there was no cloud cover gives it a very clean look with impressive color gradations.

As you can see I really like to play with the contrast of structures and people. The human figure as part of the scenery also shows the reflective possibilities of the moment.

In this image you can compare and see what I was saying in the previous paragraph. Here the tones are more neutral. If we had to describe in one word this picture, I would say: peaceful, relaxing or calm. What other adjective can we give to this image.

After several attempts directing my travel friends, finally one of them took the photo I wanted. This is my reflective moment.

Cuántos suspiros, reflexiones y pensamientos han despertado esos últimos rayos de luz del día. De cuántas alegrías y tristezas habrá sido testigo. Quién no se detendría a admirar este hermoso cuadro de la naturaleza. He visto miles de atardeceres, todos extraordinarios y si hubiera podido, los habría fotografiado todos y cada uno de ellos. Lamentablemente no siempre he llevado una cámara a mano. En las siguientes líneas les dejo un pequeño compendio de algunos ocasos que he presenciado en varias partes del mundo. Espero las disfruten tanto como lo he hecho yo.

Se podría decir que es un típico crepúsculo, pero aquí vemos los últimos instantes de la tarde en las inmediaciones de la Basílica de San Pedro. El cielo casi sin nubes y las luces de la ciudad y de la basílica ya encendidas permiten apreciar los detalles de todo el escenario.

La Isla Victoria fue uno de los lugares que más visité durante mi permanencia en Canadá y por esa razón verán varias imágenes de sus hermosos atardeceres. Este escenario me dejó sin palabras.

Al empezar el viaje en ferry de retorno a Vancouver, también empezó el atardecer. Como no tenía un filtro para esta ocasión, decidí no fotografiar directamente el sol y en cambio logré esta imagen que da cuenta de la intensidad de la luz.

La intensidad de los colores, el reflejo y vaivén de las aguas dan una sensación hipnótica.
Vean que hay una diferenciación bien marcada entre los distintos atardeceres en la Isla Victoria. En uno de los viajes los colores son más neutrales, terrosos u otoñales si se quiere dar un adjetivo. En cambio las fotos pertenecientes a este viaje son más impactantes y vivos. La diferencia en la saturación de los colores es significativa y eso es lo que los hace especiales, ¿no creeen?

A más de 2.000 m de altura sobre el nivel del mar, en una visita a la cima de la montaña que protege a la ciudad de Caracas, tomé esta foto de alto contraste donde se aprecia en el fondo un cúmulo de nubes que tapan la visibilidad a la ciudad y los tonos característicos de un sol poniente.

Durante el día el color de este paisaje es muy distinto. El cielo y el mar se fusionan en un azul casi infinito, pero en la puesta del sol, el color del cielo cambia radicalmente a unos hermosos tonos naranjas, casi de color ladrillo que se combina en perfecta armonía con tonos grises y azulados.

Durante el trayecto en ferry nos topamos con otra embarcación. El atardecer empezaba a descollar en el cielo. Vean esos reflejos cálidos de color naranja que se empiezan a fusionar con el azul del cielo.

Durante mi estadía en Vancouver me hospedé hacia el lado norte, de modo que tenía que navegar todos los días para llegar al downtown donde realizaba mis actividades en el instituto de inglés. Un día, al regresar a Vancouver Norte, decidí caminar un poco y admirar la ciudad a lo lejos y este es uno de esos instantes al atardecer.

En esta imagen se puede apreciar el colchón de nubes que tapa la ciudad de Caracas y hacia el lado izquierdo se levanta por encima parte de la montaña.

Mientras íbamos rodando, en medio de las montañas rocosas, un espectacular cielo con destellos naranjas se reflejaba en la superficie de un lago.

El azul del cielo ya no es protagonista. Los colores se tornan pasteles y se reflejan también en el agua en esta toma panorámica de la Ciudad de Vancouver desde Vancouver Norte.

En esta otra vista hacia la ciudad, los tonos pasteles de colores brillantes han desaparecido y ahora en cambio son más grises. Una pequeña luz naranja predomina en destellos por toda la escena.

Un cielo encendido contrasta todo lo demás en este zoom realizado a parte de la marina y el puente Lions Gate.

A medida que avanzan los minutos, los colores pasteles y grisáceos del cielo se van haciendo más intensos. El color del cielo transformado en un tono azul oscuro que muy pronto se convertiría en negro y las pocas luces a lo lejos parecen fuego detrás de las montañas y de los árboles.

En el mes de agosto acostumbro a ir por lo menos una semana a la playa. Nuestro destino favorito está ubicado a 400 km de la capital y es por mucho uno de los parajes tropicales más bellos de Venezuela. Al atardecer, cuando salíamos del Parque Nacional, tomé esta foto desde el carro. Ya despuntaban los colores finales del ocaso para dar paso a la penumbra.

Creo que este es uno de los atardeceres más intensos que he podido observar. El hecho de que no hubiera nubosidad le da un aspecto muy limpio con gradaciones de color impresionantes.

Como pueden ver me gusta mucho jugar con el contraste de estructuras y personas. La figura humana como parte del escenario también muestra las posibilidades reflexivas del momento.

En esta imagen se puede comparar y ver lo que venía diciendo en el párrafo anterior. Aquí los tonos son más neutrales. Si tuviéramos que describir con una sóla palabra esta foto, yo diría: apacible, relajante o tranquilo. Qué otro adjetivo le podemos dar a esta imagen.

Fue tan hermosa la vista panorámica que decidí tomar otras imágenes, pero esta vez involucrando un primer plano desde el ferry.

Luego de varios intentos dirigiendo a mis amigos de viaje, por fin uno de ellos tomó la foto que quería. Este es mi momento reflexivo.
