When your plans don't go as planned...

A few months ago I saw a coach trip advertised taking you up to Northumberland and one of my favourite places, Holy Island, I absolutely love it there, so I popped into the office and and bought two tickets to go for me and my girlfriend.
Yesterday was the day we were going, the coach was picking us up at 8.15am from the bus station, and we were to head on to holy island from there. Anyhow, we got to the bust station, and was waiting quite a while, the coach finally turned up a bit late but we got on, it was full of pensioners, not that bothers me, but I've never heard as much moaning in my life.
The bus had a problem with the air conditioning unit on the left side, where it had leaked water, admittedly there was a lot of water, when the driver set off, it was pouring out of the end of the overhead units. We'd only drove about 1000 feet and the driver stopped the bus again, I said to my gf "shall we just get off the coach as this is really driving me mad hearing all the moaning", we decided to get off and do our own thing, we decided to head to Whitby instead and drive up ourselves.

There's a lot of roadworks lately, especially on the A1 which is one of the roads we need, this is causing quite a few traffic jams, so I put Whitby into the satnav and it took us a completely different way, we went through the countryside and through all these little villages and it took us up to York, as we got the the A46 we knew where we were, anyone, quick decision was to go into York instead of on to Whitby.

So we parked the car up and got the park and ride into the City, it's much less hassle doing that and cheaper than parking in York it's self, parking is a right rip off in York.

We decided to visit our favourite restaurant, Rustique, a French eatery with some of the finest food I've ever had.

(French onion soup)

(Slow braised pork with cidre and mustard mash)

We absolutely love this place, and it was so nice sitting there not hearing any pensioners moaning on and on lol.

After dinner, we had a walk around town, taking photos of some of my favourite "old" buildings.

So we didn't get to Holy Island, I don't think I could have sat on the coach for 3 hours to be honest as it was really crammed in, small seats with no leg room, I know how a sardine feels now.

However, what turned out to be a rubbish morning turned into a great afternoon.

All shot done on my iphone 14 pro, I hope you like a bit of street photography.

Thanks for reading,
All the best :-)
