Canadian Aviation

in Photography Lovers14 days ago (edited)

Today we are going to take a “dive” in a different direction. A deviation from the typical Mountain photography. You might say this post is partially inspired by @shoemanchu. Lately, he has been posting a lot of aviation photography, which is pretty cool. As I am not able to take such awesome aviation pics, I must find my subject material from a different source. Canadian aviation stamps. Any stamp collectors out there? These here beauties were issued in 1979 (the 17 cent and 35 cent). The bottom two 17 centers were issued in 1980. If you can believe it, these stamps were created based on paintings by a gentleman named : Robert William Bradford. Which is your favourite bird?

Awesome, this is pretty cool right here and thank you for the kind words of inspiration. I used to have a big collection when I was younger and to be honest it was early 80's collection before the 80's within about ten big books, sure probably could of had some real good stuff but moving all around the world, specifically after the Philippines I have no idea what happened to them all, pretty sad and maybe retirement type collection. I love the fighter jets ones but to be honest I think all aviation is awesome and I cant wait to get more moments to capture them. Have a blessed one my friend, keep them coming.

Next best thing to photographing them is looking at pictures or paintings of planes. Maybe someday you get back into collecting. In the meantime, you have some nice “birds” to capture.

True that, I already collect to many things, some call me a hording collector, my wife specifically Haha.

I have been a serious stamp collector, however I stopped adding new material about twenty years ago. I still keep my collection.
I remember that some time ago you shared some photos of Canadian stamps of 50's or earlier (BTW I consider that the golden age of the stamps).

I really love them old stamps, but they are pricey to collect. Do you collect worldwide stamps or only local stuff?

It is an expensive hobby. I do Venezuelan stamps (I have a good collection). I also do TAAF (French Antartica) and some British overseas territories. These last collections are far from complete.

I like the British Empire stamps until the 50's. They are very expensive, and a huge topic.

I'll need to check them out. Sounds interesting. When crypto rockets I'll need to buy some more.

I hope that hive surpasses its ath in this cycle.

I'm no longer a collector but can still admire. That's and intriguing way to share history. Stamp collecting is a lost art.

A lost art yes, most collectors are our grandparents it seems.

You're right, it's mostly our grand-parents. I had a cool collection as a kid. There was a subscription in the 90's that was like a kid stamp kit with the info pages to assemble and it came in a new set every month or quarterly something like that. As an adult I never took to it as much. Now I just keep the ones on envelopes.

Ahh..this reminds me of my brother's stamp collection book in yhe 80's which he has kept it with great care.

It can be fun to collect these stamps. There really has been an incredible amount of stamps issued over the years.

Tat is very much true. A true hobby and dedication when you go after it. First time I got to see aviation stamps. Nice one

Thanks, I will show more again sometime soon.

Greetings @daveks ,

What a lovely post....the stamps are well designed and eye-catching.

'Consolidated Canso' Stamp is quite a pick...it looks like it is going somewhere fast...right.

Cheers!

I tried the link for your community...gave an error...will try again later.

Thanks for stopping by, will have to take a look at that link…

These reminded me of a seaplane i saw online that had been converted into a houseboat. I remember thinking to myself I can’t thinks of anything cooler than that as a conversion to live in.

Yeah, that would be super cool. I could picture you living in one.

I was picturing it too when I saw it. Soooo cool

That Curtiss is a pretty stamp. But the CF 100 is a nice one as well, I love fighter jets having spent time in the military. I used to collect stamps as a kid but really haven't since then. Like coins there are just so many of them that's it's hard to collect them all!

Indeed, there are a lot of them. It’s hard to even decide how to begin collecting. Thanks for stopping by.

In my place stamps are also very expensive, I also really want to have one but I can't afford it

These ones on display are actually not worth much at all. Thanks.

beautiful stamps reminded me of a super nintendo "sonic wings" game maybe you played it in your childhood

Sonic_Wings_Special_cover.png

Oh yeah, never played it.

I like the Vickers bird, I'll take one pleasa

Let’s go for a fly bos.

Yes pleasa

Yep the beauties. Pretty looking stamps.

Thanks for looking.
