The topic of the day

We got out of the restaurant unsuspecting and totally unprepared, for the surprise that was waiting for us. The whole day had been sunny and warm. The evening was also warm and everyone was out, enjoying their Saturday night. The (almost) full moon was shinning on the clear sky and there was no sign of bad weather at all.

And yet, a few minutes before midnight, the town disappeared under a veil of fog. This might sound ordinary to many of you, living in northern countries but it is mostly unusual here. Actually, I have spoken with people who live 50 years in this town and they said that they had never seen something like that before!

I have seen similar fog myself, in a very few occasions and it was always in villages up in the mountains or at the north of the country or both :)

But never in a seaside town of south Greece. This was extremely rare and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to capture it. Fortunately everything is close in small towns and so was my gear!

In a few minutes I was in the streets again, carrying my camera and tripod, attracting quite a few looks and arousing a few smiles, especially among the teenagers who seem to associate photography only with smart phones and everything else looks weird and probably old-fashioned, in their eyes!

As I was editing those pictures, I couldn't make up my mind if I should go for a coloured or a monochrome version. So edited a bunch of them in colour and then another bunch in black & white. Why limiting myself?

And you can tell me which ones you prefer yourselves :)

It turned out that I was right to be in a hurry in the first place. The phenomenon lasted only for half an hour, maybe even less and as I was reaching the main square, around 500 meters (0,3 miles) away, the fog was already started to dissolve. But I didn't mind. I had taken the pictures I wanted and I continued my night photo walk which by the way, I wanted to do for days and I kept postponing it.

In the last three pictures, as well as in the first picture of the post, the fog was almost gone but the magic was still there!

And now, almost three days later, the unexpected fog is still the topic of the day!

The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 6D mark II with a Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L lens attached. I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic.

All the pictures and the words are mine.

It's a Bianchi like mine 🚴‍♀, this is a great sign that I will be visiting that place hahaha.... For me, the fog is something related to the universe and its desire for me to travel... not to be repetitive but that's what my spirit guide is telling me 🤣

And Happy Anniversary, 7 years at Hive is a lifetime! You are a great photographer. 😎

Start packing! We shouldn't ignore the signs when we see them :)

Thanks a lot! Time flies. I can't believe that it is already seven years here!

I think both in color and black and white they look great, and in both ways, quite ghostly 👻 😄.

Ghostly is a nice way to describe it :)

Thank you!

😁👍🏻

Whether is sometimes unpredictable. I remember experiencing an ice rain for the first time, and I have never experienced ever again.

It can be very unpredictable indeed!

I really enjoyed your photos and fog story. So great that you were able to capture the moment.

Thank you @jacey.boldart :)

Yes it was very fortunate that I was there and I had a camera handy!

The photos in both color and black & white are stunning, especially the one u described as the almost-gone fog where the moon is still shining through it

Thank you for your feedback @vixmemon :)
