Un enorme saltamontes 🦗 / A huge grasshopper 🦗

Saludos hivers. Uno de los insectos más populares es el saltamontes, los hemos visto en cuentos y en personajes de películas animadas, irónicamente, también es uno de los insectos que más fobia le produce a la gente, en especial cuando saltan jajaja 😂. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes las fotos que le hice a un saltamontes que encontré en la terraza de mi edificio.

Hello hivers. One of the most popular insects is the grasshopper. We've seen them in stories and animated movie characters, ironically, it's also one of the insects that most people are afraid of, especially when they jump, haha 😂. Today I want to share with you the photos I took of a grasshopper I found on the terrace of my building.

Este amigo o amiga me observaba mientras yo hacía mis rutinas de Qi gong y de Tai chi, algo que siempre hago al final de la tarde arriba en la terraza, me gusta hacerlo ahí porque es un lugar tranquilo, hay una brisa encantadora y es ideal para practicar este tipo de actividades que requieren silencio, concentración y una mente despejada 😌, al parecer este saltamontes también pensó lo mismo y por eso buscó este lugar para meditar un poquito jeje.

This friend was watching me while I was doing my Qi gong and Tai chi routines, something I always do at the end of the afternoon up on the terrace, I like to do it there because it's a quiet place, there's a lovely breeze and it's ideal for practicing this type of activities that require silence, concentration and a clear mind 😌, apparently this grasshopper also thought the same and that's why he looked for this place to meditate a little hehe.

He visto y fotografiado una gran cantidad de insectos, me encantan, pero nunca había visto un saltamontes tan grande, medía entre 12 y 15 centímetros, por su tamaño seguramente era una hembra ya que son más grandes que los machos. A medida que yo giraba a su alrededor para tomarle fotos desde varios ángulos él también giraba jajaja 😕🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️, así que me movía con lentitud y sin acercarme demasiado para que no se asustase y se fuera.

I have seen and photographed a lot of insects, I love them, but I had never seen such a big grasshopper, it measured between 12 and 15 centimeters, given its size, it was probably a female, since they are larger than males. As I circled around her to take pictures from different angles, she circled too, hahaha 😕🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️, so I moved slowly and without getting too close so that she wouldn't get scared and leave.

Una de las cosas más impresionantes de los saltamontes son sus patas, en especial el último par, les sirven para dar saltos de gran longitud. Un dato curioso sobre esta especie es la transformación que pueden asumir cuando se dan ciertas condiciones climatológicas y de disponibilidad de alimentos, así como cuando hay mucha densidad de población, cuando esto sucede, abandonan su comportamiento solitario y se vuelven gregarios, reducen el tamaño de sus cuerpos, aumentan el de sus alas, su color cambia de verde a amarillo o marrón, y a partir de ese momento se transforman en langostas.

One of the most impressive features of grasshoppers is their legs, especially the last pair, which they use to make great leaps. A curious fact about this species is the transformation they can assume under certain weather conditions and food availability, as well as when there is a high population density. When this happens, they abandon their solitary behavior and become gregarious. Their bodies shrink, their wings enlarge, their color changes from green to yellow or brown, and from that moment on, they transform into locusts.

Si bien los saltamontes son solitarios, se alimentan con calma y son mucho más grandes que las langostas, que a diferencia de ellos viven en enjambres y comen de manera voraz hasta convertirse en una plaga para los cultivos, ambos pertenecen a la misma especie, forman parte de la familia de los acrídidos (Acrididae), y son ortópteros. Sin embargo, aunque todas las langostas son saltamontes, no todos los saltamontes son langostas.

Although grasshoppers are solitary, calm feeders, and much larger than locusts, which, unlike grasshoppers, live in swarms and eat voraciously to the point of becoming a crop pest, both belong to the same species, are part of the Acrididae family, and are orthopterans. However, although all locusts are grasshoppers, not all grasshoppers are locusts.

Cuando terminé mis rutinas de Qi gong y de Tai chi, el saltamontes seguía ahí descansando así que le hice unas fotos mas, le agradecí su colaboración y me fui. Este encuentro fue muy interesante, al menos para mi porque no creo que el saltamontes tenga mucho interés en nosotros jajaja.

When I finished my Qigong and Tai Chi routines, the grasshopper was still resting there, so I took a few more photos, thanked her for her cooperation, and left. This encounter was very interesting, at least for me, because I don't think the grasshopper has much interest in us, haha.
