A True Friendship across decades on Gaia

Luke Jerram’s Gaia @ Rochester Cathedral, Rochester, Kent, UK, June 2022

Hello dear community of Photography Lovers, in the last days I’ve spent quite some time sorting and organising my pictures from all my hard-disks, memory sticks and phone, I created a special folder dedicated to all of you in order to take you on board for quite a few journeys from my recent and not so recent documented artistic life. Each frame, each moment holds an entire universe of beauty, which was never shared before on other platforms ( as I signed off Facebook and Instagram) nor to friends, so I am extremely glad to be able to share all of this with you. I really hope you will enjoy the journeys.

Today’s journey I will call “ A true friendship across decades” these picture were taken back in June 2022 when I was still living in England. That day I was pulled out back into the “New Normal” life after all of the Covid lockdown years. One of my good friends in England bought us tickets to see the Earth, made and named by Luke Jerram’s, “Gaia”

His installation was presented in Rochester Cathedral. For me this was the first “big event” I have attended after all of those stolen years…

It was very impressive to see how people were interacting after all the restrictions and huge amount of fear they had digested in those crazy years.

Two participants grabbed my attention in particular, they were two lovely old ladies. One could tell from their body language that they have been very very close friends all their life, while getting closer to them I started to imagine how they grew up together, how they had been on each other’s side all their life and how they faced different difficulties such as political changes, and how they supported each other during and in the transitions through hard times.

They were very close, making jokes and giggling exactly like kids do, at some point the “security” in charge with the law of social distancing noticed them and at some point interfered with his famous drill…. They seemed not to care at all, in the most beautiful way, yet they took a step back from each other exactly like in one of those childhood games, and they were laughing.

It melted my heart to see them and to be able to understand and witness the absolutely beautiful friendship they shared, the two fantastic ladies also charged my heart with hope as they made it possible to see that the normal was not that affected by the “new normal”.

I hope you enjoyed the story behind these pictures and now I let you embark on the visual journey through the photographs I took of this event and their presence there.

On board my dear community. :)
