Mid-March monochromes!

What’s up, Hive? It’s been a great day! This’ll be my second post on the chain in one day. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to do that. This morning’s was just a silly MTG Arena stream, but this’ll be the pinup work you’re all looking forward to. Each month, I’ll do one or two posts where I take my favorite color photos from the archives and convert them to classic Old Hollywood style black and whites. Most of my clients want color images so it isn’t until I do these Hive posts that I see these in their monochromatic beauty. Without any further adieu, here are the late March edits.

First, I wanted to share a photo of my very own @vermillionfox. She has been such a foundational force in my life and the base of our family unit for 8 years. I owe so much of my happiness to her and she needed to be the first in this selection of new edits. Shortly after we met, we did a photo shoot together while helping me at the annual NOIR photography event in Minneapolis. We continued to shoot together for fun and she began exploring photography and self portraits shortly thereafter. This was a photo I took of her while working on the final chapter of my Dark Pinup Book with @wcpublishing.

This next shot is with, “Girls Next Door”, star and author, Holly Madison. I started shooting with Holly during my many trips to Los Angeles. Unlike the pinup scene, I didn’t network with her the way I have with other celebrities. She got in touch with me directly and we set it up. The first shoot together was strong, but it was this second shoot where I went with a much more ambitious theme. We climbed a hilltop behind the old Griffith Park zoo and set up this complex Alice In Wonderland theme. Definitely one of my favorite shoots of the year.

Lastly, this shot is of a model named Kelly. We worked together in Minneapolis in 2021, once things finally started to reopen. This was for a salon that hosted a fashion event and I was hired to capture the models in between their walks. Of course, I wanted to add to the drama so this Victorian goth look I took outside and added a candelabra. The fashion really made a statement with the various textures of the fabric and lace. In my opinion, this shot is even stronger as a black and white. I love taking the time to revisit these standout shots and editing them as monochromes.

Wow! You have a great skills on photography especially portrait. They looks so good.

Thank you, @jenthoughts! This is my 23 year of shooting, which is hard for me to believe. I was terrible for the first 12, then slowly started to develop my style and voice.

Wow! Its a very long experience.

Awesome photos. We love the old fashioned Hollywood glamour look. Keep up the great work.

@stickupcurator thank you! Yeah. That's been what's paid the bills for quite a few years. They NOIR events I used to hold were always popular, especially in Hollywood. Thanks for the comment.

Too neat, my admiration to this work. Fascinating 😛🥰🥰😛🥰.

Nice shots! They did turn out really well. I can see what you are saying about the patterns in the last one . The paisley or whatever that is really pops in black and white. I don't think it would have as well in color.

Thanks, @bozz! Yeah. I love having the opportunity to convert some of these images to black and whites. They take on a life of their own sometimes. I've found that red images, or high levels of red and orange tend to get muddy, but the higher contrast photos tend to pop as monochromes.

Very cool! Thanks for the tip! I was out taking some pictures of the Aurora last night. I shared one in my recent post. Pretty crazy what our phones can do these days. I left my better camera at work so that wasn't an option.

That second image has such great set building, and texture. Really has some incredible depth. Well processed, as always; your work is fantastic.

@holoz0r, thank you. Texture is a big factor when I'm setting up shoots. I went to school for art and learned early on how important that is with great master's paintings. I try to incorporate it into my shoots. I'm glad you recognized that.

Me too. I spent 5 years at art school to work full time as a data analyst now, with the odd portrait or wedding photography job thrown in. :D

This is a very nice photo !

Sure they will be beautiful shots in color, but in black and white they are magnificent, expressing a soul and feeling, which color does not offer.
Post more often these works are outstanding!

Thanks, @mikezillo! I completely agree. Monochromes have their own charm. I certainly will. Thanks for the comment.
