ROTATION

First I lit @stepko and the lift from behind with the Emisar D4K and blue colour filter. In the second step, I screwed the camera onto a second tripod with the Camera Rotation Tool. I placed it in front of a pillar in the large hall. Several layers of paint were peeling off. I illuminated the flaking paint at a flat angle. I rotated the camera with 60° angles around the optical axis. The image was taken, as always, in a single exposure and, apart from sharpening and denoising, was not processed on the computer.

Zuerst habe ich @stepko und den Fahrstuhl von hinten mit der Emisar D4K und blauem Farbfilter beleuchtet. Im zweiten Schritt habe ich die Kamera auf ein zweites Stativ mit dem Camera Rotation Tool geschraubt. Dieses hatte ich vor einem Pfeiler in der großen Halle platziert. An diesem blätterten mehrere Schichten Farbe ab. Ich beleuchtete die abblätternde Farbe in einem flachen Winkel. Ich drehte dabei die Kamera mit 60° Winkeln um die optische Achse. Das Bild wurde, wie immer, in einer einzelnen Belichtung aufgenommen und, von Schärfen und Entrauschen abgesehen, nicht am Computer bearbeitet.

We took the first part of the picture exactly as in this picture, which I showed you in the last post. I had only changed the position of the camera a little.

Den ersten Teil des Bildes haben wir genauso aufgenommen wie in diesem Bild, welches ich euch im letzten Beitrag schon gezeigt hatte. Ich hatte nur die Position der Kamera etwas verändert.

Before we realised the complete image, I had taken some test shots for the part with the rotation. I usually don't take test shots and then repeat the whole image if I make a mistake. Since there are many dangerous places in this location (holes in the floor and in the lift, metal parts hanging from the ceiling, etc.) we didn't want to walk around in the dark unnecessarily often. There were only two of us, @stepko was the model and I did the light painting. So we couldn't cover the camera during the exposure and then walk the paths with the headlamp on.

Bevor wir das komplette Bild umgesetzt haben, hatte ich einige Testaufnahmen für den Teil mit der Rotation aufgenommen. Meist mache ich keine Testaufnahmen und wiederhole dann bei einem Fehler das gesamte Bild. Da es in dieser Location viele Gefahrenstellen gibt (Löcher im Boden und im Fahrstuhl, von der Decke herab hängende Metalteile usw.) wollten wir nicht unnötig oft in der Dunkelheit herum laufen. Wir waren nur zu zweit unterwegs, @stepko stand als Model im Bild und ich machte das Lightpainting. Wir konnten also die Kamera nicht während der Belichtung abdecken und die Wege dann mit eingeschalteter Stirnlampe zurücklegen.

Unfortunately, the rotation causes the strong colours to disappear. I could have put less light on the pillar, but then the whole rotation would have been too dark for my taste.

Leider verschwinden durch die Rotation die kräftigen Farben. Ich hätte hier weniger Licht auf den Pfeiler bringen können, allerdings wäre dann die ganze Rotation für meinen Geschmack zu dunkel geworden.

Here you can see the tripod with the Camera Rotation Tool. I used the cap to cover the lens during the rotation. I had the Emisar on all the time so I could see if the 60° angle was right every time.

Hier seht ihr das Stativ mit dem Camera Rotation Tool. Mit der Mütze hatte ich das Objektiv während der Drehung abgedeckt. Ich hatte die Emisar die ganze eingeschaltet damit ich sehen kann, ob der 60° Winkel jedes Mal passt.

And finally, a picture of the lift. Very creepy, isn't it?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
