LIGHT PAINITING PORTRAITS

The most important thing with light painting portraits is that you always make sure to portray the personality of the model and not focus too much on the particular light painting technique. Especially with portraits, less is often more. Too many traces of light around the model usually distract from the actual portrait.

Here you can see the Light Painting Tool, which I use for most of the pictures. The bundle of black glass fibres, illuminated by a light blue Convoy S2+ was the only light source here.

Here I have attached a prism in front of the lens. I illuminated our model with a scanner.

After the first pictures had worked so well because our model Emily had held still well, we shifted up a gear here. I lit Emily up a total of three times. She turned her head perfectly into the right position.

Here, the two siblings held the fibre optic tool in their hands first and I started the exposure. After a few seconds I covered the lens and took the tool away. In the second step, I painted them both with a second fibre optic tool in a different colour.

Here you can see some of our fibre optic tools again. Mostly we use the black ones. These only light up at the ends. With the white and the coloured ones, there are larger traces of light. The coloured ones glow in the colour of their fibres when you shine a white torch on them. If you shine a coloured torch on them, the ends of the fibres shine in the colour of the light. This can be seen clearly in the picture. The red fibres glow green at the ends and the green ones glow blue.

Hier sieht man nochmal einige unserer Glasfaser Tools.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

Great portraits, the first one is my favorite ;)

Really cool freaky portraits. Top with that filter.

Cheers mate 😊

These are as creative as ever! The second reminds me of a Kate Bush album cover for some reason 😀

Fiber optics must be one of my most used tools I think ;)

I love the third and first shots! Really cool looking portraits.

Thanks 😊 I am glad you like it.

Of course.
