Capturing Moments - Memoir Monday

in Photography Lovers15 days ago

What's in a photograph?

Moments, memories, and beauty, an image captured in a split second that lasts forever. especially when sharing it here in Hive

Those are the kinds of images I like to remember!

@ericvancewalton's Memoir Monday has seen me digging deep into my memory bank. The question What is one of the best photographs you’ve ever taken? is not an easy one!

I'm not a photographer, but I've been able to capture some nice photos using my cell phone!
Many Hivers, like me, have become amateur photographers, and has us snapping away wherever we go!

Choosing my best photo is very difficult, as my Hive journey sees me stopping by many communities. My favoured ones are as a foodie and a traveler, especially exploring the natural wonder of our world.

I've chosen to go with the latter, but as I simply cannot decide which one of these is my favourite, I'm sharing four photos, not just one!

This image brings back wonderful memories of a last getaway in the central Drakensberg with our son before he emigrated to the Netherlands.
We were on the Blue Grotto hike and surpassed our son's expectations. We managed to cross the stream which he thought would be our final stop, but we both hopped a tad unsteadily from boulder to boulder with a not-very-taut rope strung across the stream to grab at when our balance failed.
Looking at this image takes me right back to that moment. In my mind, I hear the sound of flowing water and birds singing their songs and smell the fresh mountain air. Special times are captured in this one image.

We crossed the stream, and the pathway became steeper the further we went. I slowed everyone down, wanting to snap away at everything; mushrooms on the forest floor, moss flourishing on a fallen tree, ferns, and many other plants. It was beautiful.
The path was becoming slippery and steeper, and hubby and I gave up when we reached yet another waterfall. Some rocks made perfect seats, never mind that it was rock-hard. I used a jacket as a cushion!

It was lovely and cool sitting there on a hot summer day and would be the last time hubby and I spent special moments on a Berg hike. We were quite happy to wait for the kiddos to return from the Blue Grotto, enjoyed listening to the sound of the waterfall, and enjoyed quiet time.
This rock with a smaller waterfall looks just like the profile of a skull, right?

I have a fascination with trees, so always snap away when walking through a forest. This was taken last year at the Goois Nature Reserve in Hilversum, Netherlands, where my son and I took a couple of leisurely walks at the end of his working day.

Trees of a different kind, mostly Palm trees, and this is at the Durban Botanic Gardens, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. Hubby wasn't keen to go to a park in the city, but I managed to drag him there a couple of years ago. He enjoyed it so much, that we were back there some two weeks later with friends.

I still cannot say which is my favourite, but they all hold special memories, and are now stored here on Hive, my forever memory bank!

I cannot imagine a world without photos!

The photos are exceptional. The second one struck me as being so similar to the park I was just in, Old Man's Cave, during my trip to Ohio. Do you have as many photos saved on your phone as I do? I'm really close to crossing the 6k mark on my camera roll. I think I have a problem. : ) Thanks for your contribution this week, Lizelle!

Hi Eric, thank you, it's all made possible by the amazing nature in our world!
I initially store my photos on Google and copy the ones I want to keep to dropbox, my phone would be bursting at the seams if I kept them all, as I'm forever snapping away😉
I have a load of catching up to do with Memoir Monday, thank you for the prompts!

You're welcome! So true! Dropbox is a great solution, I'll have to try that. I hope you have a wonderful weekend my friend!

Beautiful memories and such an interesting pos @lizelle, some of them would make quite an amazing painting.
Thanks so much for sharing some of your cherished memories....and, I might add....you're a brilliant photographer.
Have a wonderful day.

Thank you my friend, I think you were with us when I took the photo at the Botanic Gardens. Miss those days💔

I remember those days, seems so far away, also miss them. Things seem to have changed so drastically in the past couple of months, it's quite daunting... maybe I should write a post on that subject and get it out of my system.
Love you lots my friend, go well.

Hi dear @lizelle I hope you are doing well :)

Let me tell you that these photos are beautiful, you have a very good eye for photography 🧡 My favorite is the first one, it reminded me of the rivers in the mountains of Córdoba, Argentina.

Have a nice day ☺️✨
