The Secret Lives of Photos: The Photos That Never Got Their Moment in the Spotlight

My photography journey started again about a year ago. Since then, I have captured many objects. My favorites are the moon, landscapes, and architecture. Long before I get back into it, my paid experience was only as an event photographer and all I had to do was document the event; mostly the people. I never paid much attention to the details or saved copies of my photos. That is with a reason, to begin with, the camera wasn't even mine. However, since I got my own camera, all I've wanted is to share my pictures and showcasing them to the world. Although there are times when I feel like my photos are not worth sharing and I don't have the confidence to share them. I want to present only the best curated version of my pictures. I know that some people confidently share low quality or even blurry photos, but my tendency towards perfection holds me back. I am too self-conscious to do the same. Today, I am setting aside my fears and wondered if you've ever experienced something I did. Because behind these non technically and aesthetically pleasing pictures there are stories that I think we experienced when chasing the most perfect photo.

Once again, I think it’s only natural that we want to see only the beautiful photos and showcase curated selection of pictures to the world. Afterall, who would want to see blurry or poorly lit pictures? But things do happen when you take pictures. Maybe someone bumped into you, walking in front of your camera while shooting an object, or your hands are shaky because it’s cold outside. Eventually, they are hidden in the depths of our laptop and drives. They are waiting and hoping that one day they will make it into the light. These photos may not be technically perfect or aesthetically pleasing, but they carries lessons. By bringing these hidden photos to light, I am going to tell you the stories and memories that might otherwise be lost.

For example, as you can see above, that was my struggle when trying to take a picture of a coffee cup. It is important to wait until the coffee is no longer steaming hot before attempting to photograph it. But I was too impatient.

The situation above is something that happens quite often. I might be on my way to somewhere else and saw something interesting, but by the time I try to capture it, the opportunity is gone. Sometimes I can't even ask the driver to stop and I miss out on a potentially interesting subject. Have you ever experienced something similar?

I am always envious of macro photographers who can get the bees to stay still. I have tried to capture bees myself, but I always seem to encounter those with hyperactivity problem.

This motogp event taught me many things. 1) I need a better camera😂 2) being a sport photographer is not that easy. When people say camera does not matter, maybe it doesn't, for still object. It is a form of cope which I indulge before. Yet when I went through this folder, once again, I am reminded that camera matters.

Those are a few examples that I can conclude from my journey. Photos are more than just a decorative element making our article even more pleasing to read. They too have stories and the power to teach us something regardless of the result.

I really like the way you're able to share some of your bloopers. Refreshing. And I hope 2023 brings you the new camera you'd like. Maybe Santa already has it in his sack? Here's hoping!!

I wish so! I've been eyeing some but some life urgency takes more priority than a camera right now. Hopefully I can get a better gear and stepping up my photography. Thanks for checking this out 😊

that was my struggle when trying to take a picture of a coffee cup

I feel you. Haha. I'm hoping to buy my own camera someday so I can just use my phone as it is. Hehe

Smartphone these days are great. Some of them even produce better quality than older camera. So, you don't need to get one if you're not really into it.

Oh yeah. As long as the camera phone is more than enough.

Blurred photos are cool too and there is mystery in them, sometimes we wonder what photo and where even though we took it ourselves

hahaha yeah! there are some aesthetic blurred photos but some are meh.

I have the steamy experience even with my cell phone. It's often with food. Every time I catch myself in a hurry to photograph my hot food and forget to waste until the steam is out... Lol

Yep, I agree, you do need a good camera especially for sport photography.

Same here! steamy food is the enemy haha. I have problems with them but it is what it is. It taught me some patience tho which is something I often lack 😂

I lack that patience too as it is. 😂

I am often in a hurry to take the shot so I can dig in 😋😅

It is certainly not easy to take pictures. I feel the same way you feel: photos taken from the wrong angle, camera focusing problems, rushing and moving animals. I've never even taken a macro photo of an animal in my life, because every time I put my phone close to an animal, they run away. I guess I won't be able to do it until I get a great camera. But maybe @stresskiller has more ideas on this hahaha.

I am always envious of macro photographers who can get the bees to stay still. I have tried to capture bees myself, but I always seem to encounter those with hyperactivity problem.<

well for me what works is i go out in the garden at 6 am in the morning when it's still cold from the night then they are not that active and you van get nice close ups..

and don't cast a shadow over them it will scare them off

and yes a good camera with a good lens and lights does help a lot but it takes also a lot of practice and failures

It's quite tricky! The insects around me has ADHD problem haha. My camera is able to zoom out well and good for macros but it's the uncooperative insects that's always been my problem.

Details and details. Some of us just want to deliver the best of the best.

It's true but these days I think we can showcases some of our mistakes. After all, that's what separates us from AI generated media 🤣 which seems to be the topic these days.

My previous @v4vapp proposal has expired. I have a new one which is running but unfunded right now. I'm still running @v4vapp and all my other services but I may have to increase the 0.8% fee to 2.0% if I continue to be unfunded.

Please consider asking your friends to vote for prop #244 or consider unvoting the HBD stabilizer explained below.

For understandable reasons in the current crypto climate it is harder to get funded by the DHF, I accept this so I'm asking a wider audience for help again. I will also redraft this proposal with more details (coming soon). I'm also looking for other funding sources.

Additionally you can also help with a vote for Brianoflondon's Witness using KeyChain or HiveSigner

If you have used v4v.app I'd really like to hear your feedback, and if you haven't I'd be happy to hear why or whether there are other things you want it to do.

  1. The bar to be funded is set by the HBD Stabilizer, the more votes that has, the more votes @v4vapp needs to be funded. If you want to reconsider supporting that proposal and unvote it, that would also help me (and others so you have to weigh this choice.)

In your case, you use the images to complement and decorate the stories you write... I do the opposite, I complement my photos with stories... a good image by itself already tells a story but I like to guide the viewer by telling them what happened

The concept that you presented to us today was very good, although the images are not perfect if you tell the story behind them you manage to catch people

That's true, sometimes narratives complement the not-so-perfect images.
