A mole hunter in action.

Or non-action, as it takes many hours and much patience to catch a mole.

I stepped up to get a better view of what was going on.

We came down to the public park for two reasons. There is a lady that has a small food trailer, and if you want the best hot pancakes in the Cape, then this little trailer is the place to visit. So, on a cold and windy day, we decided to get two pancakes. I also wanted to get some mountain photos, but at first the dog held my attention. A mole hunter of distinction and it will spend the day waiting for a mole to emerge. The park also has cricket and baseball fields, and there is a tar area, where little children learn how to ride on bicycles. Some motor car driving academies also use the area to train learner drivers. So, like I said, there is always something going on here.
Come and look.

This below is an open view of the public park. Imagine having a food trailer here with this view and as the owner, I would sit here all-day eating pancakes and adoring the views.

Okay, back to the dog, and I was really hoping that it would get a mole, but sadly it was not my luck.

You can see how the dog excavated the mole's front door :)

I have a certain impatient friend here on Hive, and maybe the patience of the dog would be a lesson to him :))

That's how we left the dog, as we did not have the hours to sit and wait in order to see it with its catch.

Below is a view of some mountain shots.

Always something unusual going on here, and over the years that we visited the park, I got some lovely photos to post on my blog. As nature lovers, we also have a membership of the local park association. Many people walk around here with their cameras, as it is an ideal place for photography, and our little dog Troy is also buried here. We booked a spot for his grave, and we paid for a plaque and a new planted tree. So, the park is a pleasant place to visit, and it holds some great memories for us. No, we have not decided to get another dog yet, as the traumatic death of our little Troy was very hard to bear. He had been with us for 17 years and his passing felt like that of a family member. Most of us as humans have our own grieves, and this life is like that, as each of us find our own individual ways to cope with it.
Such is life.

I hope that you have enjoyed the patience lesson.

I sometimes watch our cats sitting on the balcony or at the window and watch the birds flying around outside - they are also very patient just like this lovely dog. After a couple of minutes watching them without anything happen, I either fall asleep or go to do something else 😉 !LOLZ

Hahaha, I doubt that any bird will come and sit on the balcony railing, especially if a bird sees the cats there. So, you have a good reason for falling asleep my friend 😪!LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

You have no idea how especially the young birds fly towards the cats and make a turn shortly before they are too close. You even can hear them laughing when they see the kittens disappointed faces 🤣 !LOLZ

I can somehow hear the birds laughing, and it surely will make the kittens more determined to catch them. I just hope that the kittens will not also try to fly, as it's quite a drop from the balcony to the ground, and they will kiss mother earth very hard 🤣 !LOLZ

Hihi, there are quite some Sparrow kids in the tree right opposite of our balcony and it's cute to see them flying and playing (with the cats 😉).
Both cats have fallen down to the ground once a while ago, and they still love to balance on the small railing. It's only the second floor and down there is grass, so I think they both have lost only half a life of their seven lives 😀 !LOLZ

Terrible to see that the kittens fell off the balcony, but luckily, it's only two floors and there is soft grass below. Cats have padded feet, as you know and the ability to always land on their feet. I would love to watch the sparrows playing with cats, as I think that must be great to see. Yep, you are right as half of their nine lives are gone. Over here the cats have 9 lives 😜 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

It is exactly like the thing that one gets interested in, then a person sits and looks at it for a long time, then these mountains, flowers and plants are very beautiful.

Oh yes, but so many cannot wait and that's why they always miss the target. It is essential to take life a little slower, instead of rushing around.

I pray that one day you will meet a new furry friend to carry on Troy's legacy 🙏 The end is always painful, but the time spent in joy and the memories make it all worth it.

Why was the dog hunting moles? Was he trained to do so as part of the landscape efforts?

The strange thing is that I have had many dogs over the years, but little Troy crept right into my heart. Maybe will get another one in the future, and in the meantime, we cherish the memories. Every night Troy would come to me for a pet and a goodnight song. He refused to sleep unless I sang for him.

Some dogs instinctively hunt moles and rats.
