Catching a rainbow...

...on the ride, and I could get a few shots to share with you.

We were on a very busy road, and sadly no place to stop, but that didn't deter me from getting some shots. My wife was driving, and I had to carefully lean over to get the shots, so as not to interfere with her vision. She did however slow down, and I think that I didn't do too bad to get the rainbow shots. By the time that we reached our destination, the rainbow had departed to rainbow land.

One has to be prepared for action all the time, as so many lovely surprises can appear. We love nature and for us there is always something interesting to see. If not, then we will go and search for it, and in this case, nature decided to show us our first winter rainbow. We are in a winter rainfall area and even on this day we had some rain, as you will see later in the post. I am thinking of installing a sunroof in our car, as then I can stand on the seat and stick my head out like a turtle sticks its head out to get better shots of the views :)

Now the views started to change as we saw the origin of the rainbow at the ocean waterfront in the distance. We are a couple of kilometers away from the waterfront and I have some high spots where I regularly take shots of the ocean. A pity that the sky was a bit dark and misty because we had some rain clouds around. On sunny days I get clear shots of the tall buildings at the waterfront. You must have seen some of them in my previous posts some time back.

Some raindrops on my camera lens, as I wanted to show you what the sky at the east looked like. You have seen the west with the rainbow.

And finally, this last shot was taken as we arrived back home.

Unusual for the winter rains to arrive so early, and as I said before it turns our normalities upside down. Whenever there is a bit of sun we run around like chickens to get our washing on the line, and I don't know about you, but I don't like to dry after a shower with a wet towel. So, nature seems to be spiteful as quickly she covers the sun with clouds. If they were normal clouds it wouldn't matter, but rain clouds are another matter.

I think there is a song about "catching a rainbow", or if not, then somebody can certainly make a new song with the title. They can even include the words from the Wizard of Oz, that goes something like, "Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly...". Now I can honestly say, I don't know the song, but my wife just sang it for me. Btw. One cannot catch a rainbow, and one can also not catch a falling star. Lol.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

I can just see that view now, you sticking your head out of the sunroof with the camera to get the shots! lol Doesn't sound very safe in the end though!

Too bad you can never actually get to the end of the rainbow to find that pot of gold... The closer you get the more they move! They are beautiful things, and always fun to see. I love the double rainbows as well, you don't get to see those quite as often.

Have you ever seen a moonbow? I've only seen one once, they aren't bright and have no colors, but they are interesting.

I can't say that I recall the song from the Wizard of Oz either, being a man I'm not much into musicals. Even the classics like that one. But in the end you are correct, we can't ever get to that pot of gold at end of rainbow or catch that falling star. Just things of natural beauty we can enjoy, and such is life!

And I am thinking of strapping a fold-up chair behind the sunroof on the roof :)

Haha, no. That is true. I have occasionally got a double rainbow, but as you say they are a rarity.

Nope, never been fortunate enough to see a moonbow. You have certainly seen another of those wonders in nature.

Yeah. You have read that I am also not a fundi on musicals, but thankfully my wife enlightened me a bit about the songs.
The songs are fairy tales and probably more for kiddies :)

We are so fortunate to see the wonders of nature, as one can only think about the places where the wars are going on, and how nature is ruined by falling bombs, not even to speak of the loss of human lives.
But you know what I am going to say here...

The rainbow is so beautiful. I haven't seen one that beautiful in a long time, and you also took some really beautiful and cool landscape shots.

Thank you for the compliment and glad that you liked the post.
