The cold front landed overnight.

I mentioned in yesterday's post that we were expecting a new cold front.

This shot above was the only early morning sun that we saw for the whole day.

The rest of the day was covered with water, and we were thoroughly soaked by the rain on our walk to the church. I have to say that the rain fell intermittently and one had to be careful not to mistime the breaks in the rain. For instance, a break would arrive and one would go outside only to walk into a smattering of rainfall by a roving raincloud. Best is to keep an eye for the light grey sky with no darker clouds hanging around during a break in the rain.

Come with us for a quick drive, and in the second part of the post I will show you what was waiting for us when we arrived back home.

Three shots below of the drive in the rain.

Right, now let me show you some shots back at home.

A shot below of a Speckled Pigeon to show you how they handle the rain.

I am sure that the squirrels watch out for our car, as we had hardly arrived back when they scurried up to the study window to tell me that they want food. It is always like this, but on this day the other wildlife was nowhere to be seen. Not even a little bird, or a full complement of squirrels as only two young females arrived.

My wife places the peanuts next to the two water bowls so that they don't fight.
018.JPG

So, the one eats at the bowl at the bottom, and the other one grabs a nut at the top bowl and then jumps up on the wall to eat it.

Tail umbrella time, as a soft rain was falling.

This one was wetter than the other one.

Finally, here is a close-up of the wet one.

Then you just have to see when the squirrels have had enough to eat, and then they start to bury the remaining nuts on the sidewalks in the mud. Normally their faces are cloaked in mud, and they almost look like racoons. But they don't mind as when they have buried all of the nuts, they rinse their faces in the rain puddles next to the road. Then they sit preening themselves like the birds.

Autumn has decided to resign here, as the winter rains and cold have arrived instead. We are already down to a cold daytime maximum of 14C temperature, and in other areas in the country they have dropped to 8C. Some people walk around dressed like Eskimos, as the quick change from the high temperatures in Summer to these low temperatures is difficult to cope with. But we are all survivors.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Ah man I love visiting the African squirrels and birds every day! The joy you get from simple kindness to animals reverberates through the blockchain!

In celebrating the passing of the seasonal torch to us up here, you can see the differences. Similar regular rain and temperatures even as we head the other direction. With that daytime high of only 14 Celsius, I took this pic 5 days ago. It was only 12 (I looked right at the thermostat before snapping this pic) and here we have a crazy Canadian walking in the midmorning sun in shorts and a t-shirt!!

I will have to get better at capturing the critters up here this summer to help keep you warm in your winter!

Wow! what a lovely compliment, and I appreciate your way with words my friend :)

Well, the time for the passing of the torch has come, and now hopefully your temps will start to rise at your end of the big dam. We also have those crazies here, but rather the younger ones, as us oldies have to keep our creaking bones warm.

Looking forward to seeing your critter shots, and your turn now to make me long for summer again Lol.

Love the soaking wet squirrels. We have the same type of weather here in western N.Y., and we are in Spring. Crazy, right?

The little ones are very brave :) Fancy that you have similar weather patterns now leading into spring.
I agree that it's crazy, and keep safe milady :)

The squirrels are smart enough to recognize you vehicle arriving, they know it's time for some food! They are clever little creatures taking the nuts they don't eat and burying them in the mud to come back and snack on later. And then they even go rinse themselves off in the puddle to get rid of the mud. That must have been fun to watch!

Those cold fronts bring in those cool storms off the coast and dump lots of rain. It's shame to see winter arriving and the warmth of fall fading, but the world never stops turning. It will do what it's going to do and we are just here for the ride.

It will be interesting once we become an interplanetary species. But I sure wouldn't want to be leaving the earth behind for some unknown new planet where you destined to die. Oh well, to each their own! And like you always say, such is life.

Rather late than never Lol.
Not feeling so well these days and have to take early nights off.
Yep, the squirrels are quick learners and they watch our place. They bury the nuts to have winter food stocks, and at times they forget where they buried some nuts, and then we have to pull the little plants out.

So true, and we are only on a journey on this planet. Talking about planets, we will thankfully not be around when the interplanetary events start occurring, as I think that it would be a way off before it starts. So, they damaged this planet and then they will want to also go and damage other planets.
Such is life indeed Lol.
