Hello friends, today I decided to post about a little magical moment in my garden when a butterfly landed calmly on the ground near my annex here at home. I slowly approached it, and to my surprise, it didn't run away.

I then stood there observing and photographing every detail—the colors, textures, and beautiful wings—and it seemed to enjoy being photographed.

Later, when I went to my computer at home, I discovered on Google that it was Charaxes jasius, known as the strawberry tree nymph. I also learned that it is one of the most beautiful and imposing butterflies in the Portuguese fauna. Its wings feature a mix of orange, brown, and silver hues, with wavy margins and a short tail on the hind wings. I loved learning about this butterfly species.

I tried to learn more and online discovered that this species is typical of Mediterranean regions, and its caterpillars feed primarily on the leaves of the strawberry tree, a very common plant in Portugal. Although it may seem exotic, it's a native and fascinating presence in this immense biodiversity.

Observing a Charaxes jasius up close is a rare experience. I'd never been able to photograph it like that before, and I was amazed by this unique opportunity.

It was a great gift from nature, and I loved this moment where sometimes we must observe what surrounds us, and nature is wonderful.

Olá amigos, hoje decidi postar sobre um pequeno momento mágico no meu jardim, quando uma borboleta pousou calmamente no chão perto do meu anexo aqui em casa. Aproximei-me lentamente e, para minha surpresa, ela não fugiu.

Fiquei ali a observar e a fotografar cada detalhe — as cores, as texturas e as belas asas — e ela pareceu gostar de ser fotografada.

Mais tarde, quando fui ao meu computador em casa, descobri no Google que se tratava da Charaxes jasius, conhecida como a ninfa do medronheiro. Descobri também que é uma das mais belas e imponentes borboletas da fauna portuguesa. As suas asas apresentam uma mistura de tons alaranjados, castanhos e prateados, com margens onduladas e uma cauda curta nas asas posteriores. Adorei aprender sobre esta espécie de borboleta.

Procurei saber mais e descobri online que esta espécie é típica das regiões mediterrânicas, sendo que as suas lagartas se alimentam principalmente das folhas do medronheiro, uma planta muito comum em Portugal. Embora possa parecer exótica, é uma presença nativa e fascinante nesta imensa biodiversidade.

Observar um Charaxes jasius de perto é uma experiência rara. Nunca o tinha conseguido fotografar assim e fiquei maravilhado com esta oportunidade única.

Foi uma grande dádiva da natureza, e adorei este momento em que por vezes precisamos de observar o que nos rodeia, e a natureza é maravilhosa.
