I have been fortunate to have photographed the Aurora Borealis over 20 times this year, but nothing compares to this night or this vision.
It was a really cold night in January (like -40 celsius cold). After a day of photographing the mountains my partner and I went to this spot with our tent in the back of our car ready to setup for this shot. The night started very bleak and most people left by 11:00pm.
The real show started around 2:00 AM however.
With freezing limbs and excited faces we took out the tent and weighed it down with items we had in the car. Because most people had left this was not going to be a disturbance to anyone in this large area.
This is not a time-blend or composite. It was simply one of the most spectacular displays of aurora we have seen!
Have you seen the Aurora before?

This is so cool. I would love to photograph this one day.
Thank you! Yes I would love that for you :)
I've seen it dancing once and it was magical, but have captured some colors on my camera a handful of times. We don't get it very often down here in Utah 😉.
I definitely need to get up north next winter.
Come visit up here! Nothing better than seeing people's excitement :)
Beauty of a shot. Is that Goat pond by chance?
Thank you! Nope this is right in Banff :) I have gotten some aurora at Goat Pond but need to try again.
Stunning composition, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words :)
