Abstract Photos Of Awesome Ice

It was foggy yesterday morning here at Donner Lake in Truckee, California. But after a while, it started to clear up so I grabbed my camera and walked across the street to see if I could get any cool photos of the lake with a bit of the fog on it. When I got to the shoreline, I noticed something even cooler...

There was a bit of ice, but it wasn't your normal frozen surface. There was wild unusual triangular patterns all over it. The fog was nice, but I spent most of my time shooting icy abstracts instead.

These were all shot with the Canon 5DS R, which is a 50.6 megapixel DSLR. If desired, I could print these up huge. I kind of think these first three images would look very nice on a big wall somewhere...

These next two wider angle photos of the ice aren't bad either. I just like those first three a bit better.

And here's what I originally had in mind. The lake's surface was very still, the early morning sun made the color of the boulders look very warm, and the fog brought it all together to make a very calming serene shot.

Those are some awesome images of frozenly beautiful ice. The part you photographed looks like engravings. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

Thanks, glad you like them! Mother Nature's engravings.

Damn!!!
Look at those clean pictures
I’m very sure the water is clean too

I wouldn't drink that water without filtering it... But yes, it's pretty clear this time of year.

Oh, really, very interesting patterns on the ice. The first three photos would look really cool like a triptych on the wall :)

Right?! I thought they would look great at a triptych too...

Very cool ice shots 👍 almost like crystals. I too like the first three. Lighting is better, gives them some depth. The boulder shot is surreal - like the boulder and the mountain are floating in the fog.

Thanks @steven-patrick! Yes, I'm glad I paused and got of photo of that boulder too. It was majestic looking.

These are really awesome pictures you really took I must confess

These abstract pictures of ice is very beautiful to the eyes and I do agree with you that they should grace the wall on very large pictures.

Thank you @yellow74! They should be on the website, available for ordering, soon...

The icy abstract photos are great, so unique it reminds me of some glass designs.

Glad you like those @edith-4angelseu! It was pretty cool to see.

This is actually looking so awesome and amazing 😍

Glad you liked that!

That's a very beautiful formation of ice with beautiful patterns and I love your photos of them.

The water at Donner Lake is crystal clear and clean,
and we were blessed to be able to take some beautiful photos because of it. 👍

It's incredibly clear this time of year! Not a lot of algae yet, but it can get a bit murky along the shore in the summer. Glad you like those photos!

Its amazing. The stone on the lake water looks like its floating on this water. Sorry for not being able to see you wonderful pictures for a long time due to hectic routine.
