Buzzards bay Recreation area
Today I am sharign some shots from a walk last year, well know almost forgot were in 2025, these are from back in 2023, when I took and early morning drive to visit a spot called the Buzzards Bay recreation area
Its a nice spot with a good size car park and a nice walkway alongside the Canal
Its not really that far from home maybe a 35 minute drive, but I have only gone there for walks twice
as I said there is a nice long walking path, well it may be a road but there was no traffic on it you can see a few people walking in this firts shot, and the Bourne Bridge in the distance,

The reason I went there the first time was to check out the Cape Cod Canal Rail Bridge
The bridge was constructed beginning in 1933 by the Public Works Administration from a design by firms Parsons, Klapp, Brinckerhoff, and Douglas as well as Mead and White, for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, which operates both the bridge and the canal.
The bridge has a 544-foot (166 m) main span, with a 135-foot (41 m) clearance when raised, uses 1,100-short-ton (1,000 t) counterweights on each end, and opened on December 29, 1935. The bridge replaced a bascule bridge that had been built in 1910.
At the time of its completion, it was the longest vertical lift span in the world. It is now the second longest lift bridge in the United States
I have not seen the bridge lowered for a train to pass yet, but who knows maybe i will this year, would be cool to see the bridge moving down

At first glance, I honestly didn’t understand the structure or the purpose of this bridge, even though you mentioned it’s a rail bridge, sir. Haha. But when I read further and you explained that you wished to see the bridge being lowered for the train to pass, that’s when I started to understand its function.
It must have been amazing to see it lowered down in action.😃
