Of course you're right. But in fact, our generation and the generation of our parents have not seen a lot of species already. As far as I remember, in just the last 100 years we have reduced the diversity of the animal and plant world by about 60%...

I mean, maybe our children won't even experience this painful feeling, as we didn't have time to experience. And only you and I will sigh sadly, not finding a bird familiar to us in places familiar from childhood...
