I keep saying that music is more than just a combination of sounds in a melodious way.
Music itself has a voice that speaks to those who care to listen. It is the only thing that can hit your soul, and you feel no pain.
Music, as we know, knows no bounds, no ethnic group, no tribe, no colour, and no gender. Music goes well for everyone irrespective of where you come from, and everyone appreciates the rhythm of every music. That’s why we can boldly say that music is a universal language.
Take, for example, a southerner travelling to the western or eastern part of the country or any part of the world for an event. When music is being played, even if he or she does not understand the language used in singing the music, they will dance to the tune and rhythm of the music. That is because music connects with the heart, not the head. It speaks directly to the emotions of people, making them respond in joy, in tears, in reflection, or in celebration, without even uttering a word.
Again, during football competitions, while the match itself helps in uniting the different teams playing, the background music also helps in uniting people from different tribes, races, and religions, because you will notice them dancing to the tune of the music. You will see strangers becoming friends simply because of the beat, singing together, cheering together, and vibing together. In such moments, music becomes the bridge that connects different people, regardless of language or location.
Furthermore, in times of crisis, protest, or joy, music brings people together. Also, take for example the national anthem of a country: once it is being rendered, everyone stands at attention as a form of solidarity. This shows that music also symbolizes respect, identity, and unity.
Let us also not forget how music plays a vital role in religious gatherings. Whether it is a church service, a mosque, a traditional festival, or a spiritual ceremony, music is used to connect the people to the divine. It is used to pray, to worship, to praise, and to strengthen faith. The power of music in uplifting the spirit and stirring the soul cannot be underestimated.
The ability of music to express words, evoke emotions, and boost someone’s feelings makes it a powerful tool. Music is not just entertainment. It is communication. It is healing. It is hope. It is memory. It is inspiration. Music is a powerful tool, and it is a universal language that transcends language, culture, and religion.
Let’s keep using music to unite our world.
