The tales of a former broke college student.

Get in over your head as often and as joyfully as possible.

In March this year I was tired of being a broke university student. It was right after corona lockdown in my country, and I had recently returned from a Study period abroad in Sweden. During this study period I met a lot of inspiring and hard working people. There was a German that particularly inspired and amazed me. He managed to combine 2 study programmes at the same time and also worked 3 days a week at an IT company, while also exercising and eating healthy.
Me on the other hand, I had debt, and was getting more of it every single day. I would spend most of my free time playing games, and not going to parties. Slowly i started to feel like i could do much more than just study.I enjoyed my time abroad in Sweden, started working out and made friends that will probably last a lifetime. When I arrived back home I was inspired and motivated and decided something needed to change.

I applied for a job in my field of study, not a typical student job. I decided that These hard working people I met might be on to something working part time "grown up" jobs while they were still studying. I got a job offer at a Big contractor that works in contruction of building bridges, railroads and everything that come with it. My field of study is civil engineering so I thought this would be a great opportunity to get some experience in a branche within my field of study. The job involved the design of cable networks and pipeline networks required with the railroad industry, My job is to review these designs and make sure things can be built and when they get built. I need to make sure everything is set in place to be built. For example ordering all the cables and making sure the excavators are there and the work is properly planned. As a Student with next to no serious working experience it was quite intimidating to get started, I got a company phone a laptop and a car. I had to get up at 5am to get to the office because construction start at 7 and it was an hour drive to work. I was not very good at getting up early beacuse i used to sleep at daytime and be awake at night, just gamer things. But slowly but surely i got used to it and I ended up quitting gaming altogether. except splinterlands :)

It has been 6 months now since I started this Job and a Spot opened up in a huge multidiciplinary project for the company. During this project the entirety of a train station with 12 tracks needs to be renewed. Including infrastructure above ground and below ground. I applied for the position and somehow got it. Now I am involved in this Project calculated at multiple millions of euro's! I think it is a great opportunity for me to learn about big projects like these and grow my skillset. But I am also very intimidated by the scale and the experience of the people I am working with on this project.

To make a long story short, a lot can happen and change in a few months. I feel like I am a completely different person compared to one year ago. I feel much better. I gained a bunch of muscle. I got my first Girlfriend. I Have a good job and am also doing well in college. Im slowly paying of my debt while also saving and investing some in stocks and crypto like HIVE, this is how I found this platform. But while working I feel like I am in over my head. However, this motivates me to keep going. I hope people enjoyed reading this, And maybe get a bit of motivation out of this themselves. It might be a bit peronal but it felt good to write this.
