I haven't been the most active Splinterlands player for the last couple of years, but in general I enjoy putting in a game here and there.
Those games are not consistent at all, and also since the change of the dynamics of not receiving any reward chests but Glint to buy stuff, and also only receiving Soulbound cards versus tradeble cards for me the fun in playing without any rewards feels a bit liek a waste of time.
Don't get me wrong, it is not about the rewards at all. But getting no rewards means I can also play a game of chess on the computer here. Now why wouldn't I do that? Well, at first there was always a good deal in playing Splinterlands, so i would always choose that, but what happened now?
So it was the weekend and I wanted to just play a random game of Splinterlands here and there to see what kind of cards I would run int. i saw peopel with super cool cards and those I had no idea what the features were. That means getting back in there so see how you loose from them in my case.
But what did I find when I tried to open up the Wild league?
All of a sudden I am not able to access the wild league without paying DEC for it? What the hell just happened over here?
I know the team is working on trying to get DEC to the pegprice again, but doing by making people pay for it (to burn later on I suppose) and that every season again and again?
That is just super annoying for a player like me. I am just a small player with only old cards with most of Alpha and Beta cards who plays occasionally a game here and there.
And that player must harvested 2000 DEC every two weeks to play? That is 9 Hive for a lap of playing as I am not a player at all who will battle on the daily throughout the whole season.
I like the idea of that you can battle yourself up through the trenches of playing. I also realize for the team it was difficult to make a sustainable system over the years. But what is happening now is just all too expensive for the smaller players.
Maybe the big ones make a crapload amount of DEC on the day, but I guess this is only the deal when you have invested big.
I have invested in a license node and also a plot of land and even with those things there is no way that I am able to get 2000 DEC a month for just a random play in the wild league because that is the only place I can play with my own cards
Now I also understand what killed the rental market for Alpha and Beta cards. There is no place where people can play the cards, so there is no reason for leasing them.
Yeah...I am annoyed at the moment.
I get the frustration, especially if you’ve been a bit out of the loop on what’s going on here. I will however play Devil’s Advocate here. Lol
It’s had a great impact on the overall ecosystem. The idea behind it is that in Wild, one can simply continue to keep extracting forever on cards bought or earned from years prior. It’s simply not a sustainable model and makes sense if we want the project to continue and hopefully flourish.
I also feel as though there are ways to supplement that Wild pass fee here while the SPS prices are low and while it doesn’t make sense. Posting is a perfect example of that. Creating Splinterlands posts often result in a supportive upvote from the community. One post can in most cases more than make up for the Wild pass cost.
At first I was not in love with the idea but once seeing it implemented, I can see the absolute positives of it.
Love it on getting a different opinion on this apart from my ranting one haha. I get it that this surely will help on the ecosystem and I also want it to better more sustainable. But it already felt before that with the soulbound cards and no real reward in there that there was no option anymore to 'milk' anything out of it. Then it was already for fun.
Yeah, I like the idea of writing posts for making the cross involvement with the game, but I am not sure if I should be writing to fund that I am able to play a game in this perspective. What I said before, if you are the small player with not that many cards who occasionally wants to play a game here and there....those ones are not happy with the changes.
The whole idea of pay to play ...mehhhh
I get the arguments. It makes sense and even a part of me felt this way. Until I saw how it’s just completely unsustainable in the old fashion.
With the old way, folks could come in…acquire cards 5 years ago and continue to just take from the ecosystem forever at no addition cost or investment. I feel it’s not too much to ask to say you can continue that forever if one wished with the Wild pass.
But I get it. It’s one of those aspects of this strange new world that we have to figure out how to make work while being palatable for folks.
Either way, I’m here for it. VoNaK my friend!
Yeah it’s one of those really annoying changes. It affects the bot accounts in theory but it also hurts the people who just want to play and are actual people.
I wonder if I’ll ever go back to playing, these changes are not making me feel like I want to lol
And it is good that something is done to the bots and that they don't make sense to own anymore, but it is also kind of challenging for the players now who just want a small play.
Same here, I wonder when it it will be the first game of playing for me again
Jeetje, thats a bummer.
I never played Splinterlands, but isnt the game interesting enough when e.g. money wasn't part of the game?
Putting up 'paywalls' - so to speak - is never a good idea imho, certainly not when one likes to grow in users/players and all those are even worse of than you, not having anything in and around Splinterlands.
I guess the big boys are perfectly ok with how Splinterlands is sailing; HIVE Proposal system is giving out a staggering 0,5 Million Dollars to the team building and running the game. I don't have any opinion on it, since I don't know Splinterlands; I can't judge if this is money well spent.
Perhaps you shall get a tiny part from this funding; To cover the periodical DEC. Do they have a support desk? Perhaps request 'players' support 🎶
ps how was your ADE? mine turned out to be much more time spent in clubs than I expected. started with Nils Frahm (DGTL) on Friday and ended with Eerste Communie in the former bajes.
The game went through all different kinds of phases ofcourse over the years. In the glory days the card market was alive and florishing and that also led to a lot of abuse and milking the system, so I get it that was all not sustainable at all.
I liked the phase where there were treasure chests as reward boxes, 90% of the time nothing would come out of them but sometimes there would be a cool goodie, and yeah it was a lot more about playing the game then. I agree, it doesn't have to be about rewards at all, but there has to be a way to level up in something without continueing to spend and spend and spend. A player should be able to play his way higher, same like in every other game there is, get and win items...make your character stronger.
The economy of this game has gotten challenging, that is once thing I do know. And if that money is well spend, I think it is...because they are always trying to find ways to make the game sustainable and that is not easy at all. I have faith.
What I mentioned in the post, it is only about 9 hive to play every two weeks, but if I am not liking this fact and I already have a nice and old stack of cards...how will others start to play...It jsut isn't attractive to pay to play.
hahah that sounds like it was a decent ADE for you even if it wasn't anticipated hahah. I wasn't feeling the vibes very well I have to admit, so bailed and didn't make it a big one. Ben Sims was decent though!
I get you regarding the 9 HIVE. Doesn't sound much, but still, its a few dollars. For a large part of the world that is serious money. True, one shall be able to progress without smashing monetary funds into the game itself. I hope SPL peeps read your post and the comment section and take all this as a must-listen-too advice and act accordingly. Time will tell 🪄
Am glad you got at least some decent music thrown at you. Amsterdam was full of peeps. The nightly trips from the North to the South side made me have to wait for the next pond to cross the river, busy busy busy. I prefer the non-ADE weekend outs more, to be honest. 🎶
The same thing happened to me when I returned. I have many cards from the older sets and as new ones came out I would pick and choose what I needed to supplement my collection. But now it's like they nerfed the value of our legacy cards. Can't use them and nobody wants to use them. I think maybe they lost sight of some things and started catering too much to and even favoring new players.
