It's so easy to travel... or?

How easy seems to travel when we read some travel blogs or leaf through a travel magazine. We see appealing destinations, exotic cuisine, interesting traditions and curiosities about the people living in a certain place. Travelling on the magic carpet of mind, helping ourselves a bit through the screen or that magazine we hold in our hands is so smooth. But if you think about it... do you remember any of your journeys being uncomplicated? Even if the major problem means picking the suitcase of the right size to fit the requirements of the airline you are flying with... or being a bit nervous about the possible turbulences? There is always something that brings a pinch of difficulty.

...

Ok, I have to admit that there were journeys where everything went well and no rant or complaint would come. Also, the more you move - the more experience you have and even the troubles are not striking that hard. The situations that in one moment seemed unsolvable with time became a good foundation for being calmer with every new adventure. Remembering some of the situations connected to our travels came after reading the post of @anixaeva (the post is written in Spanish, but it is worth translating and reading it if you don't speak that language). The inspiration for this post of mine is coming from there. (Gracias Anixaeva.)

She was there, spending a night at the airport after an already hard day, and in the end, she couldn't take the flight she wanted to. That reminded me of one of the many adventures we had.
It was about ten years ago when we had a flight from Valencia (Spain) to Zurich (Switzerland) and from there the connection to Budapest (Hungary).

{little note: I spent yesterday evening at least two hours trying to find old photos from ten or more years ago in the external hard drive. I got lost in many memories and photos, but I found just a few from our trips. The rest is in another external hard disc but today's schedule is not allowing me to start browsing there too.)

The flight from Valencia was delayed. Actually, we already boarded and were sitting on the plane but there were some issues with the number of baggage the airline had to take, the aircrew didn't get the necessary papers from the airport so we were just there, waiting in our seats... for two hours. Of course, we arrived super late at Zurich airport and the connection to Budapest was lost. The airline was a good one though, Swiss, where you used to get food, drink and a piece of chocolate included in the price of your flight. My son was small and every time we travelled he got some little gift from the aircrew (a book, puzzle, soft toy or similar... plus, once he was allowed to visit the cabin of the pilot and look around 🤓). Due to the lost connection, they provided us with accommodation in Zurich and we were given a dinner voucher to spend at that hotel. My memory is speaking - I remember it was 60 Swiss francs for the dinner to be spent (we speak of an adventure that happened a decade ago). If you think it is a lot you are wrong. It was enough for one big pizza and three small bottles of water 😂). We were so thirsty, as the hours of waiting were exhausting so we had to buy some extra bottles of water. The positive side of it - we got a free night in Zurich hahaha and continued our trip the next morning. The negative side - we had a friend that was coming to pick us up in Budapest. He already went there while we were waiting on the plane and was not aware we could not make it on time. He arrived there, waited for us, parked in the wrong place, and got a fine from a policeman 🤦‍♀😂.

Some other years we travelled with a different company, Wizzair. It is a low-cost airline (not that cheap anymore) where you have to pay an additional fee for the baggage, food, and beverages and in some airports, they don't have permission to board from the main airport building. You have to take a bus (or walk) to the place where the plane is and board there. It's not a problem unless it is very cold so you have to wait outside while freezing... I think the photo below was not from a winter trip, but it is what I have found in the old photos, to get an idea...

IMG_20230322_081453.jpg

What happened? There was a dense fog over the airport where we had to land. I noticed that we were circling around the airport, and the aircrew was not announcing the landing. We realized that we will not make it in the chosen place. It happened an hour later, in Vienna (Austria) as it was the closest one to give permission to land 😂 Nice! We got several hours of travelling back by bus, to reach the city we were supposed to land, and then, several hours of driving to reach the other city where we actually went.

But it is not always that we choose to fly to our destinations. We combine them with long-distance driving adventures, and to be honest, I prefer now looking at the road through the car window instead of looking at the wing of a plane.

IMG_20230322_081615.jpg

However, road trips also bring higher pressure in some situations :D

Imagine being on the road, somewhere in France, in the middle of the night and your car just breaks down. Major stress at that moment, of course. Now, just memories of a few extra days spent in Beziers that I really like to remember. Or being trapped in a huge traffic jam on a highway in Germany... We lost several hours before reaching Munich but then we enjoyed that city and the company of our friend a lot. Many other anecdotes could come, like when the handle of the car froze as it was that cold so we couldn't close the door (middle of the night - travelling to the airport)... Or travelling for the whole day just a few hundred of kilometres, but very slowly because of a heavy snowfall. Getting lost as listening to (or not listening to) the GPS indications. Hitting accidentally a squirrel on the highway and break a part of the rear fender on the car...

I could continue, or write a book on this topic (no great writing skills, so it will be skipped) but in reality, I am going very hectic with my schedule. It may happen that I slow down my Hive time, a thing that didn't happen since I joined. New gigs came in the very near future (starting tomorrow) and a lot of organization, work and focus will be needed for the upcoming concerts of my students. Seems that life is like a journey, maybe I can manage everything or adjust the schedules. Days will say ;)

I am sure you all have some interesting stories connected to your journeys to share with your readers at Hive. Is it easy to travel? Feel free to share your thoughts.

Travel stories: I have soo many of them. For my employer, I must have travelled about a decade very intensely, and the other two decades mildly. All with planes since customers, and in some cases even my direct line manager living and working in other countries. Never counted but I must have had at least 10 to 15 times delay's and re-routes with my flights. You mentioned you could write a book; Well I for sure can write a book, or two, or perhaps a whole series of books. Not that someone will read them, since like you, am not a good writer. But but but, You gave me such inspiration with your post, I'll be digging into the idea of making a mini-series consisting of HIVE long-form combined with Threads short-form publications. Including photos... though I know I hardly shot photos from planes. But I may have photos from the locations I've been to. Anyways, as mentioned: Not a promise for the mini-series, but for sure is an interesting idea.

One little thing: I realise that when travelling occasionally, I can deal with all sorts of nuisances, like delays, sitting in planes waiting for departure and then being ordered to move out of the plane, reroutes, unplanned overnight stays and all that. When I travelled in the air almost constantly (well, not constantly, but it feels like that), I wasn't always too nice to airline peeps and others. Fortunately, these days I rarely travel by plane and LOVE it! Plus the bonus: Airline peeps meet a super friendly customer, even when things don't go that smooth LOL

Yes, I knew you would have a lot of travel adventures ;)
I am glad this served as an inspiration, how cool idea. Better than a book hahaha. Do this combination, when you feel it 🍀.

need to find 'feel'... boy? girl? single? couple? 😂

All of it 😂

Thats gonna be interesting 😆

Swiss air has the best catering!

It's a very uncomfortable experience, especially when you're hanging in the air. I didn't have the chance to experience it for more than 15 minutes, but that's why I got stuck in Sarajevo a couple of years ago because my flight was canceled during boarding (of course it's our airline company).

The plane coming from Belgrade (ATR) could not land due to too strong a wind, circled a bit, and then returned back with the promise that we will surely take off tomorrow.
A crowd of people didn't know what to do, except watch the other planes take off, and find accommodation for that night.

I'll never forget the face of receptions who was totally confused about my sudden comeback. 😂

You also know their catering? It was indeed comfortable to travel with Swiss air, if there were some problems they always found a solution. Well, once the luggage of ph's parents was sent to another airport 🤦‍♀ so they had to wait a few hours for the suitcases 😂 but ok.

I'll never forget the face of receptions who was totally confused about my sudden comeback. 😂

🤣🤣

Watching other planes take off is interesting... and frustrating the same time :D
I flew just once from Nikola Tesla, it was okish.

Yup, my first flight ever was with Swiss air 😂

Watching far distance flights are taking off was frustrating as am I was stuck 600km away from home. 😂

Hahaha, it is the same for everybody :)

The lost flight and an unexpectedly pleasant compensation from the company, the frozen locks of the car (we were outside 😵 ), the hectic traffic jam in a foreigner country, I have it all in my travelling history!

I hope everything will go well with your real life duties and if they keep you away from hive, don't worry, we'll wait for you :)

Those who travel seem that face the same problems hahhaha :D

Oh, but the same, frozen handles (or locks?) of the car? That is a coincidence! It was my father's car, a Peugeot (the pretty 406 model), but he washed the car the previous day. Some water probably entered the handle and as it was -20 grades Celsius (a very cold winter, and it was night) it froze and we couldn't close it 😂 (hacked it with the key in the end, locking it so we at least could drive with all the doors closed. 🤣

Thank you a lot Fotostef, will try to be around to the point I can 😉

(hugs to @traisto 🤗)

@tipu curate :)

You have tremendous writing skills haha. Thank you so much for the inspiration, after thoroughly reading every detail I feel happy, first of all that you gave us this nice travel post. Surely there will be many people with interesting stories 😉 that only remain in the memory. Secondly, I am pleased, even if you write in Spanish, that you take the time to translate so you can read me.
Travelling? Yes it's difficult, but I think you have to put fantasy in it and tie up your fears....

Well, the thank you goes to you!
You were the first with your post, and now others also got inspiration from this one. I can read Spanish, no worries, and if I don't understand a few words I check it or ask. The writing part is the tricky part, as I make stupid mistakes. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Greetings, I hope your studies go well 👋

Not sure about that nylon thing if it can be said for me, this post was an ordinary one, but thanks :)

Aww, tú sabes que no es por el post, sino de manera general.
🤫

So true, dear mipiano. I all agree with you. How I also love seeing travel blogs but surely it is not all about pleasures. What I hate about traveling is delayed flights most especially for connecting flights. Chances would also be left baggages. And that, a smooth travel is rare but what matters most is enjoying the moment and seizing the day as we explore the world.

Best regards to you my friend. I hope you are well. Have safe travels. !PIZZA

We have always had luck with the baggage, but yes, the delayed flights made lost connections. It's all part of the experience. Enjoying the good moments is indeed what matters...

Thanks a lot for stopping by, I also hope you are doing well @pinkchic 🌟

If you make some trip, make it one month trip, one week trip be very stressful because you follow the clock and calendar too closely, because you have to do a lot of things in a couple of days and also get back on a new flight. So make trip be one mont or more good two months. So you can also rest first two week 😁😁🍺👌

I just need two months of vacation to be able to do that... Oh, my summers are perfect for that 😉

True 😁😁😅

It's the expectation vs reality. 😅.. the reality of travelling is that behind those amazing travel photos and travel posts are the stressors along the way. But despite all that, I rather travel and experience some of those than never have travelled and just wonder how it feels like and how it looks like to be in the place.

Yes, I also prefer to travel and have the experience. But tere are people who can't do it, or can't afford it, it's another story then.

life is one big journey from cradle to grave, they do say that the journey is often better than the destination. In that instance I have to agree.

What really annoys me about flying is the ever increasing size of carry on luggage, just pay the extra and check it in FFS

I do agree with that one, the journey has to be the same enjoyable (or more) than the destination. 😉

When a person has to travel, such things keep coming up, sometimes the flight is delayed, sometimes we also have a lot of trouble to pick up, but I have to say here that when a person leaves for a trip, All these things give us experience and we learn a lot from it in the days ahead. After all these things, when a person reaches the place where he has to go, he is very happy and enjoys going there.

I agree, all these things give us experience, you understood what I wanted to say 🌟

I remember I had to wait with my colleagues at the airport for about 9 hours before my flight was ready and two years later while returning home, I had to wait for more than 10 hours for the flight before I could get home. Travelling is fun but the waiting part is not

10 hours, huh. Maybe a plane is not the vehicle you should choose many times then :D

I haven't experienced the feeling being in a plane, hopefully someday I can also watch along it's windows and saw the wing of the plane.

In traveling there are really circumstances that out of our control but everything will have solutions.

I hope you can fly one day, although, for the first time, it can seem a bit scary. Make sure you have someone you trust close to you, and grab her/his hand if scared 😅

Yes that's one of my dream hopefully I can someday. I can't imagine myself riding an airplane hehehe

Fog during the landing phase is very very dangerous even if the instruments to check airplane and flight status are now very much precise.
I have never experienced such change in the landing airport but I had several delays do to bad weather conditions that forced the pilot to change trajectory to land, after waiting for small storms to pass

They know what to do (well, we hope the pilots will always make the best decisions ;))
It is our part just to be patient and have trust that we will land. Somewhere ;D
Thanks for stopping by @mikezillo
