Hi friends, today we are going to buy tickets for the suburban train at the train station in Krasnoye Selo. It's a simple purchase, it will only take a couple of minutes. But on the way we can take a little excursion for ourselves.

Krasnoye Selo Station. 1910-1914

The first railway station at Krasnoye Selo was built in the mid-19th century. This station was built by architect Nikolai Benois in pseudo-gothic style. Architect Nicolai Benoit liked this architectural style and worked in it a lot. The most famous Gothic station, built by this architect, is located near Krasnoye Selo, in Peterhof. Unfortunately the old railway station in Krasnoye Selo has not survived, it was destroyed during the Second World War.

The new building was erected in the 1950s. The style of this building is neoclassicism. Strict geometric shapes and a simple but distinctive design are the hallmarks of this style. The use of round and semi-circular elements was a highlight of the building. The entrance to the station is on the opposite side of the building. I have to walk up the platform to get inside.

From the central hall I went left into the waiting room. Usually the benches in the waiting rooms stand in slender rows in the centre, but here I saw a different arrangement. The benches were placed opposite the tall windows, which had a nice view of the park.

The waiting room is quite large, but those windows make it feel light and airy. The ceiling of the room deserves special attention.

From the waiting room I returned to the central hall. It's another hall where you should definitely look up - there's a circular dome above the hall.

Downstairs there are ticket offices, ticket vending machines, a paper train timetable and an electronic scoreboard showing the nearest flights. The ticket from Krasnoye Selo to St. Petersburg costs 56 roubles ($0.70).

The time was still quite early, the weather was fine and I thought I had no hurry. The ticket would be valid for the whole day - nothing prevented me from skipping the train and taking the next one, but in the meantime I could take a walk in the park near the station. There is an old park and lakes next to the station. I was so keen on walking that I almost missed the next train too.

What a wonderful look at the architecture! I am always so enamored with it, especially in building such as train stations. There is something about them that beckons the architecture to be eye-catching and supremely grand.

I am not sure I have ever seen a dismal example ever, especially in the bigger cities, or cities of importance. It is as if there is an unspoken understanding that this will be the first place that people come in and there must be a great first impression. I admit, I love the pseudo-gothic style!

Unfortunately, the last 8 pictures did not show up. They are little icons. :( So, I waited until today and still, they are not here. Nevertheless, I know you and I know your attention to detail! Thank you so much for the wonderful article for the challenge~!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

How odd that some of the photos don't show up! This interface sometimes has glitches like that, but they're usually short-lived and go away quickly. But at least all the pictures of the station are there. The last photos are of the platform, where the trains come in, and the paths in the park near the station.

I've tried to check what's wrong - but I can't find the error. Must be something in the cache... I see the only solution is to duplicate some of these pics in the comments, uploading them via another platform, so that the post doesn't get cut off halfway through.

Thank you very much for your attention to my post and for the tips!

Thank you! ❤️ I am not sure either. Its annoying and seems like it happenscwhen I am posting #MarketFriday every weeks, but know that can't be true!

The waiting room drew my attention and the architecture of the place.. I would love to take the nature trail if I were there ☺️.. Might just gonna catch the next train hehe.

As it turns out, the park is very interesting. I could easily have missed a few trains:)

I love the historical background of the train station. Makes me just want to stay and admire the architecture.

Thank you very much!

Such a beautiful place and the dome above the building looks divine.

Thank you very much!

You welcome 💕

What a lovely old building shame it has gone forever

It's a terrible pity that this old railway station can now only be seen in a few photographs. Thank you very much for stopping by!

you are welcome and thanks for all your glimpses into a magnificent city
