El título de esta publicación lo dice todo. Luego de dos semanas usando Debian Sid, que será la versión 13, puedo asegurar que la estabilidad de Debian en su versión inestable es realmente sorprendente.
Tomo muy en serio las opiniones de todos los usuarios de Linux en la red social Twitter. Hace unos días recibí una respuesta a un comentario que me hizo reflexionar, la comparto:
Debian Sid es un sitio de pruebas, no una distribución final. Su principal premisa no es la usabilidad, sino la prueba de nuevas versiones. Si quieres tener lo último en una distribución estable, lista para su uso y probada, ¡openSUSE Tumbleweed es la opción! 😉
Estoy seguro de que fue un comentario con toda la buena intención, aunque esta afirmación lo ponga en duda. Además, tiene razón: Debian Sid es una versión de pruebas y de lanzamiento continuo que cumple perfectamente con su finalidad. ¿Lo anterior resta estabilidad en Debian Sid? ¿No tiene suficientes pruebas antes de incluir los nuevos paquetes actualizados? La respuesta a esta interrogante es lo que me ha llevado a escribir esta publicación y será mi opinión sobre este tema.
Según el sitio web oficial de Debian, "La distribución 'inestable' es donde tiene lugar el desarrollo activo de Debian. Generalmente, esta distribución es la que usan los desarrolladores y aquellos que quieren estar a la última." También dicen que "Por favor, tenga en cuenta que el equipo de seguridad de Debian no gestiona la publicación de actualizaciones de seguridad en la versión 'inestable'. Por lo tanto, no se publican actualizaciones de seguridad para la versión 'inestable'."
Estas notas y precauciones que nos da el equipo de Debian respecto al uso de Sid, sin temor a equivocarme, son consideraciones que debemos tener al usar cualquier distribución de lanzamiento continuo; como, por ejemplo, Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Fedora, entre otras. Son distribuciones que ofrecen las últimas versiones estables de los paquetes y aplicaciones.
Ahora bien, ¿Debian Sid nos ofrece lo último?, no en todo. Tienen sus reservas en cuanto a software importante para el sistema, como el kernel y el entorno de escritorio. Se puede observar en la imagen principal, el kernel se mantiene en la versión 6.3.0, siendo el último estable el 6.4.5 a la fecha de esta publicación. Lo mismo ocurre con el entorno de escritorio Gnome: está en la versión 43.6, mientras que la última versión estable es la 44.2. En cambio, otros paquetes y aplicaciones sí las ofrece en sus últimas versiones estables; un ejemplo de esto es el navegador Firefox.
No descarto problemas a futuro con alguna actualización en esta versión de la distribución de Debian. Mientras funcione sin contratiempos significativos como hasta ahora, la seguiré usando como mi distribución por defecto en el escritorio.

The title of this post says it all. After two weeks using Debian Sid, which will be version 13, I can assure you that the stability of Debian in its unstable version is really amazing.
I take very seriously the opinions of all Linux users on the social network Twitter. A few days ago I received a response to a comment that made me reflect, I share it:
Debian Sid is a test site, not a final distribution. Its main premise is not usability, but the testing of new versions. If you want to have the ultimate in a stable, ready-to-use and tested distribution, openSUSE Tumbleweed is the choice! 😉
I am sure that it was a comment with all the good intentions, although this statement puts it in doubt. Also, you're right: Debian Sid is a testing and rolling release version that perfectly serves its purpose. Does the above reduce stability in Debian Sid? Don't have enough tests before including the new updated packages? The answer to this question is what has led me to write this publication and it will be my opinion on this subject.
According to the official Debian website, "The 'unstable' distribution is where the active development of Debian takes place. Generally, this distribution is used by developers and those who want to stay up to date." They also say that "Please note that the Debian security team does not manage the release of security updates on the 'unstable' version. Therefore, no security updates are released for the 'unstable' version."
These notes and precautions that the Debian team gives us regarding the use of Sid, without fear of being wrong, are considerations that we must have when using any rolling release distribution; such as Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Fedora, among others. They are distributions that offer the latest stable versions of packages and applications.
Now, does Debian Sid offer us the latest? Not everything. They have reservations about important system software, such as the kernel and desktop environment. It can be seen in the main image, the kernel remains at version 6.3.0, the last stable being 6.4.5 as of the date of this publication. The same goes for the Gnome desktop environment: it's at version 43.6, while the latest stable version is 44.2. On the other hand, other packages and applications do offer them in their latest stable versions; an example of this is the Firefox browser.
I do not rule out problems in the future with an update in this version of the Debian distribution. As long as it runs without any significant hiccups as it has, I'll continue to use it as my default desktop distro.

En estabilidad no se nota alguna diferencia entre la estable y la de pruebas, en la rama inestable algún bug aparece pero nada molesto y de gravedad. Por el momento se me ha presentado uno sólo y es unos segundos de demora en cargar el escritorio Gnome, pero a los 2 días se resolvió con una actualización.
Muchísimas gracias por eso. Debian siempre ha sido una de la distribuciones más estables, entonces aun su ramas de pruebas y la inestable son soprendientamente estables. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Yo acabo de instalar debian 12 y estoy muy contento. Y aún así hay algunos bugs. Sin embargo, nada que afecte su estabilidad.
Saludos @walterprofe. Es posible que tenga unos más que otros dependiendo de la máquina donde esté instalado, aunque a veces no es responsable la propria distribución sino la aplicaciones; Wayland parece que da problema en algún software por ejemplo. Como tú dices, si no son molestos, es mejor pasarlos por alto y disfrutar. Un abrazo.

I think within linux community, they always try to offer you their preference and as if your own preference is less than theirs. Even for me, I technically got a few notice to upgrade my ubuntu but so far, I am staying with 20.04 and no problem with that, just like you mention, it's usability that matters.
You are absolutely right, it is a defect of some user of the Linux community. I simply give my opinion based on my experience, since I really enjoy it. Ubuntu was one of my first distributions, but since I met Debian and its philosophy I fell in love. Regarding version updates, they are not necessary as long as they are supported if in a secure LTS you still have them. Thank you for your comment and I am very happy to meet another Linux user here.
