Sometimes I have so much of pity for people passing through different health issues because trust me, none of them is worth to be passed through. Look at Asthma patient that will always work with their inhaler, look at people suffering from tuberculosis who will need to continually make sure that they didn't expose their body to too much cold or anything that will trigger cough. Look at people suffering from high blood pressure and many more, it can really be difficult sometimes to deal with some health issues even if you are still under medications.
One of the health issue that we hardly talked about because of the stigmatisation and the wrong perspective we have around it thinking it is associated with wrong spiritual power is Epilepsy. In one of my last post I made, I talked about the issue a lot of people facing in the sense that we always think or generalise everything to be spiritual causes. Don't get me wrong, I understand there are some health issues that are controlled by spiritual force. But the issue is it affects a whole lot of people.
Some health issues that should have been treated medically, we ignore it because we thought it was cause by a spiritual force. One of it is epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder according to medical point of view. This neurological disorder always leads to constant seizures that happens to them. When it comes to dealing with epilepsy, it goes beyond the medical treatment alone. I understand there are some medications placed under care for patients suffering from the health issue but it goes beyond it.
The stigmatisation that people suffering from it is facing daily, I will say they also need medical treatments and all other forms of treatments like emotional care, psychological treatment and many more. After carrying out the diagnosis and knowing fully well that it is epilepsy, the first thing which is been usually done to the patients suffering from it is to be placed on anti-epileptic medications. What this helps to achieve is to help to reduce the rate at which the seizure happens.
Well for some patients that it looks like the condition have become so severe, what they usually advise them is to go for surgery or therapy. It is rare to go for surgery except the condition is on a very critical stage actually. But even with those medical treatments I have discussed above, there is still a need for emotional support to be provided for the patient. Trust me, I have seen someone suffering from epilepsy and I know how emotionally it can be demanding for. Sometimes it makes them to withdraw from this social isolation because they actually did not know when the next seizure will happen.
There will also be a need to adjust your lifestyle when trying to manage epilepsy. There are things you must avoid. When making my research, I discovered that lack of sleep is a massive trigger for the seizure. It is also always advisable that the patient will not be alone. They need to be around people in case of when the seizure happens. No matter what, it can still be managed effectively and having epilepsy is not the end of the world. We need to stop spreading this stigmatisation about it.
