The Earth's magnetic field, of course, is vital for life on our planet, it is a complex force that is born from the Earth's core and protects us from cosmic radiation and charged particles from the Sun, it is generated mainly by the global ocean of molten liquid iron that is found in the outer core about 3,000 km under our feet and acts like a bicycle dynamo, basically when the dynamos rotate they produce an electrical charge and in the case of bicycles it allowed the bicycle lamps to be illuminated, the small ones the small headlights they had.
In the case of the Earth, this dynamo is much larger and allows us to create that protective magnetic field that protects us from solar ejections, from cosmic radiation, it is not 100% faithful, for example, at the poles, there you would receive more radiation than in the equatorial areas, and here, well, in principle you would receive a little more radiation, although on the surface it would not be noticeable, there are no effects on the surface of this erosion because it is not a hole, do not think of this anomaly as a hole in the Earth's magnetic field, it is rather erosion, it is a weakening, a weak point of our Earth's magnetic field. There is no study on the incidence of this weakening on human health, but I am a little pessimistic, I sometimes think, if this were really about the United States or Europe, I am sure they would do a lot of studies, but it is about where it is and I have that doubt.
Of course, it should not be a very notable influence, if there is any type of influence on human health, but it is worrying, it is an issue that worries me, not only because it is an erosion in the Earth's magnetic field, but because it has effects on the space satellites, it also has effects on the health of the astronauts, the International Space Station and China try not to go through there and if they have to go through there they order the astronauts of those space stations to get into the armored areas of the stations, because the Space stations have protection zones for this type of case.
And of course, there is another thing that is disturbing and that is that we really do not know why this is happening, it is believed among the theories that are being used, it is believed that this anomaly is linked to the strange patterns in the magnetic field that exist at the boundary between the liquid outer core of the Earth and its rocky mantle, known as reverse flow patches, the strange patterns are literally what the statement from the European Space Agency says and we know very little about how they work.
