How to tame your beagle?

Well, those of you who have a beagle may conclude, as I do, that this topic could be the subject of a book. And for those who don't have a beagle at home, know that one of these needs a training course.

Far from wanting to make this post long and boring, I want to share with you some tips that helped me a lot when training my little Alaskan dog (and that are still useful to me today, even though she is 6 years old).

I will only offer three tips, which I consider the main ones when having a dog of this breed. They are things that I have learned myself in all this time, and at the beginning I was guided by veterinarians and other people with these dogs. Here I share them in case you find them useful.

Beagles don't ever feel full

CA845FEB-958B-4806-9A55-F60086AEC274.jpeg

As superfluous as it may seem, this is for me, one of the most important facts, as it is the reason why they make so many of their disasters, hehe.

The fact that they never feel full, even after eating, is directly linked to one of their biggest demands (if not the most important!), and that is that they are always hungry! In other words, it's not just that they don't get full when they eat, but that they always want to eat.

Therefore, my best advice for this point, is to educate your puppy from puppyhood to eat at certain times of the day. Give him food just for the sake of it, treat him of what you eat? Never! Let's see, I sometimes, VERY RARELY, do it. Twice a week on average. To share, because they always ask for it and make too much of a poor hungry dog face, haha.

But this way I managed to get her to respect my meals, since at the beginning she constantly put her paws on the counter. Still, to this day, when I cook or eat, she prowls around to see if something falls, and if something hits the floor, there she is and in less than two seconds... whatever touched the floor is gone!

Beagles need to be physically active

They are hunting dogs, and they are genetically prepared to run, explore and sniff (you will see them always with their muzzle glued to the ground following a trail that sometimes I don't even think they know where it leads them). For this reason, you must offer him a dynamic rhythm of life, where you take him for walks, play, make him run, challenge him, because otherwise you run two risks: that all that energy is poured in your/their house (so he can break things and "misbehave") and that the animal shows a sad and depressed mood (being that they are very very playful dogs).

Beagles need a lot of love.

4512D45B-9EE4-45A6-A96D-7D111B7FBFC1.jpeg

This seems absurd, but I have had 4 dogs of different breeds in my life. None of them demanded as much attention as Alaska, and in talking to other people, indeed, they are dogs that love to be petted, which is why they make such good pets for children (they provide them with the perfect love and activity).

A beagle is loving, and contrary to what some people told me, they are harmless dogs. It turns out that at first, 95% of the people told me they were, that they were very sweet and playful, but there were 5% who told me: be careful, they are territorial, they are aggressive. Well, I speak from my experience, because I don't know all the beagles in the world, and I join the 95%. They are dogs that become a company impossible to ignore, because just as they ask for love, they are sources of inexhaustible love. They are always by your side to accompany you and enjoy your company.

If you do not pamper them, it is not that they leave, it is not that they hold a grudge, on the contrary, they will be there when you have the time and the courage to caress them.

Cómo domar a tu beagle?

C2080002-2B9E-4505-A275-73A83CF591CA.jpeg
