The rooster was running away from another rooster that practically drove him out of his territory. Scared, the rooster adopted my mother's house as his new home. Although he crowed vigorously, he was sad and very lonely. One afternoon the rooster disappeared and I began to miss his morning crowing. I had grown fond of this surly animal that on many occasions had awakened me at five o'clock in the morning with his thunderous crowing.
Just as he disappeared, he made his appearance again, and I of course was very pleased. I feared that he had forgotten the way back to the place that had given him shelter.
My niece found him a nice hen as a mate and he opted to stay longer at my mother's house. Today, after a long month of waiting, 4 beautiful chicks have hatched.
