Social Media is broken. Can we fix it?

in HivePosh9 months ago

Just recently I was intrigued by the tweet of Jack, the founder of Twitter, regarding his tweet about and expressing concerns that Social Media is broken, I have tried to dig deeper and spent my 25 minutes to digest what the Youtube video is discussing

If you haven't got 25 minutes to waste, here is the summary

The Youtube video describes Nostr, an open and decentralized protocol designed to revolutionize social media which I doubt it's decentralized. It claims that unlike traditional platforms controlled by central authorities, it empowers users to build their own clients, each with its unique layout and filtering options.

It introduced the concept of open protocols, drawing parallels with the early internet and explaining how it can enable anyone to build a client without needing permission. It discussed the innovative Relay emphasizing privacy, security, and the importance of decentralization in giving power back to the users.

It explored architecture and functionality, focusing on how Relays and other components work together to create a resilient and user-friendly system. It explained how users can have their own Relays, follow others' Relays, and utilize them for identity while preserving anonymity.

Also addressed potential concerns, highlighting the balance Nostr strikes between preventing malicious activity and upholding free speech. It demonstrated how it can be banned by a specific Relay without affecting its ability to interact with the rest of the network.

Just showcased how it can foster diversity and innovation. By enabling multiple clients, users can choose their preferred way of viewing content, even if others choose to filter or ban specific subjects. It predicted how Nostr could be the foundation for various services beyond social media, emphasizing its potential to democratize and transform the digital landscape.

Overall, the Youtube video painted a compelling vision of Nostr as a pioneering approach to social media and online interaction. By embracing decentralization and user control, Nostr aims to overcome the limitations of current platforms and pave the way for a more diverse, creative, and democratic internet. The closing section also included a plea for support for the project, outlining ways to contribute to the creator.

My personal opinion here

While watching the video per se I got excited not because of Nostr, but because what we have built on Hive really makes sense after all.

Hive is the real name of the game that Jack Dorsey wants to achieve, but I am confused why he refers to Nostr instead of Hive, maybe I am hypothesizing he has self-interest on Nostr.

Jack might have a personal interest in NOSTR, that is the only reason I think he will keep on ignoring #hive

Jack cannot ignore Hive forever before people can call him blind, its just a matter of time

Yeah, I agree.

Though there are many decentralized network platforms, Hive remains a decentralized platform aiming to revolutionize diversity, innovation, and user control with many more benefits.

I do agree that MANY claims they are decentralized network platforms, but claiming is one thing, and proving is another thing.

There is only one decentralized platform
