79th Independence day, 78 years of freedom, but are we free ?
India celebrated 79th Independence Day today and that means we have been enjoying 78 years of freedom since 1947. This year, I decided to come and spend time with my parents for couple of weeks, and as it's a holiday, I thought to prepare my income tax return and when I saw the figures, it really pinches me hard. What kind of independence we are talking, where only people like us doing white collared job have to pay one third of their earning just because there is a law that mandates us to pay the tax, without getting anything in return. Since everything is in records, there is no way to bypass the law - they have all the stringent punishments for people like us. Look at businesses on the other side, they have got a whole lot means to cheat on the tax. Look at corrupt govt employees, they manage to hide wealth that would last for four generations. Just ten days ago, a raid on a Motor vehicle Inspector, a govt official at my place yielded 44 land plots, 1 Kg gold and other assets. In one other incidence, someone was caught with 2 crores cash, with assets in multiplexes. What kind of independence we are talking ? I cannot afford to buy a house, paying one third of my salary, spending a lot on children education. You will be surprised to know that, the income tax rebate allows 100 rupees per month per child for children education - where are you Mr Prime Minister after 78 years of freedom ? At least allow us to spend our money on our child by giving some tax rebate on education !!
And everyone knows about corruption, can't there be strict rules and a timeline to stop that ? No, because a large part of that goes to the same people who spend them to manipulate elections. What about reservation ? Do we still need that after 78 years of freedom ? At least start removing them from Medical degree to build good doctors who are the backbone of a healthy country. And no one even dares to talk about population control - the root of all the problems of this country.
Ya, we are independent...because we have been inspired from our childhood to celebrate this day for patriotism and we are trying to push the same thoughts to our kids, but they don't have the same spirit as us...Still they went to celebrate in our apartment society - at least celebrate the moments that brings us together for a purpose.
We still have that tradition of distributing a sweet packet - remember how much joy it was for us ? But that cannot be forever - the next generation does not have the same patriotic spirit as us, because they feel cheated - by our own people, by our system.
Happy Independence day to all.

The most productive member of the state bears a disproportionate burden, and that has been the convention in welfare state. In contrast, the MSME sector knows how to evade tax. Interestingly, the share of informal sector in indian economy is above 80%. Being informal means easy to evade tax.
Well, now the opposition is demanding reservation in corporates.
UCC and population control bill should be introduced. Totally agree with this.
Yes there are n number of cases, even IAS officers are being caught for corruption and bribery. There are invisible incentives in a government job. Well-qualified People are even willing to join Gr C and Gr D jobs.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY SIR.
Thank you.

Like India, our country has also become an independent state through diplomatic means, but as you mentioned, it is questionable whether we are really free. All the wrongdoings are committed by the ordinary and middle class people, while the people representing the greedy class are given more consideration by the government. They are not held guilty of tax evasion. On the other hand, the freedom of the ordinary people has also been reduced due to the privatization of state institutions.
However,Happy Independence day.
That is the reason the young generation is not interested in celebrating this patriotism.
You might not believe it, but in many countries, even those considered richer and more developed, many people experience similar feelings. Deep down we are all closer than we seem. Thanks for sharing it with us!
happy independance day 🔥 freedom is in the heart 💛
The issue of corruption I think is almost everywhere, so sad.
Happy Independence to India
Happy Independence Day friend and enjoying
Happy independence day to india continue to have growth and development in the nation
I hope you have a wonderful celebration with your family!
This post really makes you think about what freedom truly means. Celebrations are nice, but if corruption and unfair systems keep hurting the common people, especially the middle class, then real change is still needed. True independence should also mean fairness and integrity for everyone.
Happy independent corruption everywhere in the world i thought is only in my country
Happy Independence Day to all of you in India and well you are quite right about the politicians there are some rules that need to be changed so that ordinary citizens have some advantage over the rest
It's the same everywhere ... The rich get richer, and everyone else pays taxes.
And they loot our tax money on freebies to buy votes, so pathetic.
Taxation is badly forced on people who are in jobs and they have no way to escape.
Happy Independence Day.
No one is interested in true independence where every one gets a fair share..
Happy Independence sir...
Whenever the product of anyone's labor is taxed, it is a violation of their fundamental human right to life. If you use a portion of your life to work, then your right to life extends to the production your life created.
This is a very basic and logical idea, yet is blatantly disregarded in every country of the world. This is a moral issue, a form of partial slavery that still needs to be abolished.
They won't abolish, because they take advantage of that.
A day ago, our Independence Day was also celebrated and here we were seeing that parents were also happy to tell their children about freedom, but here we are seeing that if any person speaks the truth, action is taken against him, that is why people are afraid and no one can speak the truth about their country.
Happy Independence day to India. We are very close to celebrate 79th independence day in Sri Lanka.
Happy Independence Day from your friendly country 🇮🇳 you must be very aware of the loss of patriotism due to politicians who increasingly disappoint their people with laws that do not favor the development of the population but on the contrary only achieve the benefit of a small sector of them
I think the fact that a country can stand on its own, that is a huge form of freedom
Enjoy your holiday. At times, I actually don't feel freedom even they say we're free.
This is very true. Independence should mean more than just a holiday, it should reflect fairness, justice and equal opportunity for everyone, every single person not just the privileged or corrupt
I ain't discouraging but in my opinion, we shouldn't mix the days of celebration with complains. No matter what country you go in, you'll always find something.
Bharat 🇮🇳 has is ups & downs without a doubt. We'll figure something out sooner or later.
Na naa naa! stop there please please don't spoil independence day. Please keep your patriotism feeling & anger-on-system feeling separate.
My 4 year old son was singing "Bharat Mata ki Jay", "Vande Mataram". It felt great.
Complaining won't help. Doing something about it may help.
My father-in-law says, don't complain - either you do something about it or live with it. Of course, you can't solve all the problems & there you've my answer.
We have been living with it only, its just a sharing of feelings. Do we have even a system to complain ?
There isn't anything wrong with complaining. There are ways to complain if you look for. Mixing it with celebration of Independence day is not a way to go - that's what I wanted to highlight.
Happy independence
