🎉 Scholars and Scribes, there’s an exciting new frontend on Hive!

And we’re going to reward you handsomely for trying it out (info on rewards below 👇).

This time around, the theme is #zapfic, or microfiction. Inspired by the folks over at the Freewriters Community, the challenge is to write a very, very short story. Like, very short.

And you're gonna post it as a Thread!

#ZAPFIC challenge: the basic rules

1. Write a very short story using only about 220 characters. (The story must fit inside a thread, which is limited to 240 characters, including tags.)
2. Use the threads frontend to write and post it (log in with Hive Keychain)
3. Include the tag #zapfic in your Thread
4. No limit to how often you do this

 

Literally, that's it.

🎁 ZAPFIC challenge: prompts, prizes, and upvotes

👉 Prompts

Your super short story can be about anything. But sometimes it helps to have a prompt. One place to find prompts is over at Freewriters, where every Friday and Monday they supply a prompt for their own #zapfic contests.

We will also be posting some prompts in Scholar & Scribe and on Threads to help get the create juices flowing. Check out the Threads tag #zapficprompt for a (growing) collection.

Here's the first one to start you off:

💰 Prizes

This #zapfic Phase has no real end date, though we will probably start to switch things up mid March. Until then, S&S mods will keep track of unique accounts using the #zapfic tag on Threads.

We will raffle off 10 prizes of 100 SCHOLAR and 1 SCRIBE to 10 different folks.

We will also judge the quality of your #zapfic posts, looking for originality, cleverness, and ability to tell strong stories within tiny spaces. The top five will receive HSBI rewards:

🥈 3 HSBI
🥉 2 HSBI
4th & 5th: 1 HSBI

 

🔼 Upvotes / curation

If you use the #zapfic tag to tell a short story, the @leo.scholar account will attempt to give you at least a 50% upvote with its large delegation of $LEO.

If you do that and work in 🔴 Challenge mode (by also including the tag #scholarandscribe in your Thread) the @leo.scholar account will give a full 100% upvote.

The account is also still giving upvotes for general use of the #scholarandscribe tag, so please keep sharing Hive links to other people's work!

Other Threads users may upvote your posts as they see fit as well. There are many generous folks out there, so don't be shy—use Threads for whatever you'd like! We're not the only community giving out upvotes for engaging...

 

🔭 Future initiatives

You’ll notice that this says Phase 2.

Phase 3 may be about threadstorms ⚡—although we will judge the feasibility of this once the time comes.

⚠️ There will be a massive Hive-wide adoption campaign with $10,000 USD in prizes starting March 15 (run by Leo Finance). Scholar & Scribe will be looking to participate in this as well. Get early access to the Crew3 platform being used to facilitate the contest here.
