Oh, this post went straight to my heart <3 Good for your daughters and their friends, that sense of pride at something self-made should drive more learning than it does for most kids (who basically learn things "because you just have to").
This will prove invaluable as they get older. I still have many friends (early-mid twenties) coming to terms now with managing their finances, and dealing with responsibility. It impedes growth, but hey, maybe some parents figure that's part of the deal when they choose a more traditional educational route?
