ENGLISH TENSES FOR MY SON: PRESENT CONTINUOUS

in Home Edders5 days ago

Our English lessons with my son are going on...
We still study the book of English that was used in the USSR in 1950s, and it was the book for the students of the 1st year of studying the language.
It's Ok for him, because he studied letters and reading just some months ago. Now he reads fast and easy, and we're moving further to develop his speaking and grammar.

I was surprused that the 1st year of studying the language already includes tenses!
We meet Present Simple in the book, but just in sentences, no attention how it's formed and how it's called.

The first tense in the topics was Present Continuous but again without these complicated names.
Just some schemes and examples where we use it and how.

I added the textbook info with my own schemes.

Visual memory works the best for most people, so I like this way.
I was taught by it as well;)

my son remembered it very fast!
"How easy English is", - he said;))
Oh, well, not so easy, but I like he thinks so now;))

Then we made some cards with words to train creating sentences from them according to the grammar rules.

The lesson wasn't long and boring, and it's the main for both of us;)

Sort:

English is occasionally stupid. He will either dislike or find it odd when he starts encountering the exceptions to the rules XD

The tense is kind of important and it's probably easier if you teach the words in groups like that.

My kids did the Reading Eggs program for English and one of the book packs I bought for them a million years ago had some cards like the ones you made with words on one side and pictures to match up on the other side. Probably a good thing as I don't know if it would have entered by head to make some like you did XD
