A quick guide on how to use Ionomy (the new exchange on the block)

The Hive fork has been some pretty exciting times and has definitely renewed my excitement for this community. Many of you will probably remember me ranting for years about needing to get rid of the Stinc ninja-mined stake and become a more decentralized and truly independent blockchain, well all things in good time apparently. Today I want to share one of my most pleasant surprises throughout this whole experience with you all.

I should probably first mention that I have been a die-hard Bittrex fan for years. Ever since Poloniex started getting really fucky around 3 years ago I basically moved all of my trading there. Seeing all of the massive support from exchanges for HIVE is awesome and I'm glad we have so many trading options becoming available so quickly. @bittrex is supporting both HIVE and HBD, @blocktrades already has services integrated and offers some extremely easy to use ways to convert funds for the less technically savvy, and one of my new favorite surprises has been discovering @ionomy.

The more options the better in my opinion, but I want to spotlight @ionomy for those of you that are unaware of this smaller exchange that quickly jumped to our aid during the fork, because they have one really interesting feature that I think will appeal to some in this space that other exchanges don't. I was able to make an account and get trading within two minutes without having to submit any KYC documents. I know, seems way too good to be true, but seeing is believing.

I imagine most of you are already familiar with Bittrex and Blocktrades, and if not there have already been some quality guides created out there on how to use them, so I'll briefly cover how to use the Ionomy platform for those that think it looks intimidating. First go ahead and sign up at https://ionomy.com/en/ with just an email and a password. Optionally you can enable 2fa, which I highly suggest you do on any exchange.

Next up you'll want to click on Wallets if you aren't there already:

Then you'll want to click the picture of a QR code next to the token you want to depost:

This box will pop up giving you account name and memo to deposit to:

After you've used the wallet of your choice to deposit funds, you'll go back to the top and click on Market, where you'll be able to find the tokens you want to sell and buy:
image.png

You can see the current available asks and bids as well as the quantity available at that price here to know what price is currently available to buy or sell immediately or you can just set your own price somewhere in between and be patient:

After you've dumped all that nasty old STEEM and scooped up your new HIVE tokens, you just go back to your Wallets page and click the paper airplane picture to enter the account name you want to send your new tokens to (don't forget to go to your email and verify the withdrawal):

Hopefully someone will find this brief guide useful and no matter which exchange you use, happy trading and much love!

Super useful info. Thanks!
I will def try it out once my power down starts coming in.
Hopefully I don't end up owing money to sell steem at that point. :)

Probably one of the most intuitive exchange interfaces I've ever used :)

This is truly helpful and thank you for sharing...

Cool. Good information.

Thanks for deciphering this for me.

Thanks for the info! I guess I'm going to have to try this exchange. I haven't been able to move any steem through blocktrades, and I'm locked out of bittrex until I provide them with the identity documents.

I've been using that service for a couple days. Not too shabby. Haven't had any problems other than maybe not getting tokens for full value, but at this point I don't really care.

I was really surprised how quickly they got things up. I had a powerdown go through on STEEM earlier, so I wanted to swap it out pretty quick and Bittrex was down, so it seemed like a good time to explore the no KYC route.

P.S. Glad to see you transitioned successfully. 😜

I wasn't prepared at all to be moving tokens around. I stopped trading and all that stuff months ago. For the time being I don't feel like waiting to get all these things set up. One place to the other is good enough for me. That withdrawal email tripped me out though. I didn't know I had to go there and verify. Sat here waiting like an idiot, for hours. It works though.

And yeah, if you're talking about moving over to Hive. I had no choice. I wrote about why, a couple times.

Shit thanks for reminding me I meant to mention the email thing.

Probably worth mentioning. And that reminder to check the spam section because sometimes these things end up there.

Does there exist a python wrapper for the ionomy api?

I'm not sure, I don't really do much coding.

To bad they didn't REALLY get rid of the STINC ninja mined stake..

I think I could use a little help. Signing up no problem. Depositing No problem, I did manage to get 2.010 steem deposited.

Is there a minimum amount of steem I need to sell?

As you can see I have the 2.010000 steem showing, I did put a price in, and then I got the confirm transaction box, So far so good.
Then this, and it was not easy to get a screen shot as the error message dissapears quite quickly:

Any idea what I did wrong? This is my very first time of trying to trade a crypto currency.

I guess there is a minimum 10 steem seemed to be accepted as a sell-able amount

Sorry still working the day job, but good catch I didn't know there was a minimum.

I just went to try again, and the minimum seems to be 5 steem.

Thanks for the lesson, I did get it to work, I was just trying to be cautious with my first try, if I would have tried the 10 right off the bat I would not have known either, I should have just kept uping it by one steem each try to figure the real minimum. But now I am a crypto trader. ;-)
