Normal business goes crypto
Hey Hive community, today I read an interesting post and like to bring this to our community for a pro and cons discussion.
Why Walmart & Amazon’s Stablecoin Plans Are Big News for Hive and HBD
You’ve probably seen the headlines: Walmart and Amazon are looking into launching their own stablecoins to make online shopping smoother and cross-border payments cheaper. This isn’t just a retail trend, it’s a whole new chapter for digital payments.
Let me break down what this means, why it’s a huge deal for us on Hive, and how projects like Distriator or other apps fit into the picture.
Please keep in mind, that all my writing is just my opinion and I might be wrong
Hey Hive Family
Look how crypto jumps into real life

What’s a Stablecoin Anyway?
If you’re new to the term, a stablecoin is a type of cryptocurrency designed to keep its value steady—usually by pegging it to something like the US dollar. Unlike wild crypto like Bitcoin or Ethereum, these coins don’t swing all over the place in price. That makes them perfect for quick, reliable payments, especially across borders. Think of them as the “stable middle ground” between volatile crypto and slow, expensive bank transfers.
You can read more about stablecoins here on Wikipedia.
Why HBD on Hive Stands Out
Now, with corporate giants getting into the stablecoin game, the world is waking up to what we already know: stablecoins are the future of payments. Here’s why HBD (Hive-Backed Dollar) deserves to be in the spotlight:
- Tiny or No Fees: Sending HBD on Hive costs next to nothing—no more losing money to banking giants.
- Instant, Global: Transactions are over in seconds, anywhere in the world. You just need a Hive wallet.
- Decentralized and Censorship-Resistant: Hive doesn’t bow to anyone; it’s open for business 24/7, no gatekeepers.
- Transparent Yet Private: All transactions are on the blockchain, but your personal info stays safe.
- Easy Integration: Hive and HBD are ready for real-world use, from e-commerce to micro-tipping.

The Distriator Project: Making HBD Easy to Use
Now, let me talk about something here on Hive: the @Distriator Project.
This is all about making it super easy for online shops and point-of-sale systems to accept and work with HBD.
It’s plug-and-play—merchants don’t need to be crypto experts. Think features like:
- Seamless shop and POS integration
- Auto HBD payouts
- Hassle-free accounting for even for micro-payments
- Open APIs for developers
With Distriator, HBD could be just as easy for shops as PayPal, but faster and cheaper. That’s how we get Hive out of the crypto bubble and into the real economy. But can we manage something like this here on Hive?
Example: How Amazon Could Use a Stablecoin
Imagine you’re shopping on Amazon from outside the US. Right now, your payment might bounce between banks, card networks, and currency exchanges—each taking a cut and making things slower and more expensive.
With an “Amazon Dollar” stablecoin, you could pay instantly from your crypto wallet, avoiding all those middlemen and fees. Better yet, Amazon could pay suppliers and sellers around the world in seconds, with full transparency and less risk of fraud or chargebacks. That kind of speed and predictability would be a game-changer for both Amazon and its millions of merchants.
Example: How Walmart Could Use a Stablecoin
Picture Walmart rolling out its own stablecoin for in-store and online payments. Instead of using a credit card (and Walmart paying out up to 3% in card fees), you simply pay with your Walmart Coin from your mobile wallet.
Walmart could even reward shoppers with instant, programmable loyalty points, or make remittances easier for families sending money home from Walmart’s global network. They could settle cross-border supplier invoices in minutes, not days, streamlining the entire supply chain. That’s efficiency—and savings—Walmart would love.
Bottom Line
The fact that Walmart and Amazon are seriously considering stablecoins is a massive validation for everything we’re building on Hive.
As regulation gets clearer and mainstream adoption ramps up, HBD has a real chance at becoming a go-to decentralized payment solution.
Projects like Distriator put us ahead of the curve, ready to show what blockchain can really do for global commerce.
Let’s keep building and make sure Hive is leading the way!
Love to get your feedback on this chance for Hive
Have a great day everybody

Hi @detlev ,
Thanks for sharing such an interesting and informative point of view with the Hive community ! 🙌
Amazon and Walmart's plans to launch their stablecoins could be an important milestone for crypto adoption globally . For us at Hive , this is a golden moment to show that the HBD ( Hive Backed Dollar ) has come a long way as a ready - to - use decentralized stablecoin .
I personally couldn't agree more - Hive and HBD have real advantages :
Near-zero transaction fees
Fast and global processing
Blockchain transparency that maintains user privacy
Projects like Distriator I think are crucial to driving real-world adoption of HBDs , especially in e-commerce and retail payment systems .
It could be a bridge to make HBD as widely used as PayPal , but with the speed and efficiency of blockchain .
💡 Now is a great time to push the development of Hive-based applications to keep us at the forefront of the future digital payments world .
Best wishes to the Hive community ,
and cheers to #BeerSaturday too !!! 🍻😄

This is a breakthrough, maybe is okay at US, but we should wait and see about reaction another countries. Could this breakthrough can implemented at development countries which give protect to their own currency.
Valid question.
This will open a way bigger question about countries, governments and the control of finance. If crypto can take away the control of finance from governments - what will happen?
Brilliant news...until the uK taxman gets wind of it, self assessment tax returns are a pain the arse already, this might complicate it further, as he is bound to want to get his grubby little mitts on my money
This news is exciting. If stablecoins are legalized, the payment model will change rapidly and it will benefit our community that is using Hive right now.
