I just had a thought... 🤔

What if #HIVE had a curation period of 1 year? random thought right?

Would that scare people? I guess, "possibly" because the payout was only going to happen after 1 year...

Really? 😪 Forky gone lunatic...

What if you could potentially win more by waiting for 1 year? Would you do it?

People are usually interested in just getting quick guaranteed money... but doing little to no work... not having the ability to gain priority against a rule because all you focus on is 7 days... does kill a bit of the value in my view.

7 days limits the fact that you can't necessarily build long term... without having to repeat yourself or go through weird strategies that for most common people aren't easy to guess... so.... (and this might be code wise a total clusterf... but I am going to post this anyway) because I want opinions!

Yes, RC wise this would be NUTS, but hey... what if someone wants that? Why not make a use case for it?

Still... that thought of a post being able to value something like a 1 Million HIVE! 😍
(There might be consequences to this...)

But...

What if you could just SET the curation period?

What if you could just SET the curation period?

I think the above question is an interesting thought. Select seven days and no more rewards after payment or select something else, in your example one year for longer reward earning periods. While interesting, it would be hard to "police" making it easy for abuse to take place. Abuse removed I kinda like the idea.

Thanks for the thoughts... reply...
I had more thoughts about it...

Even if people wants to attack based on long abuses... lies, etc.. They NEED to hold a LOT of RC to support that long period... because the RC needed to support that long period "should" be coming from the account selecting that period...

And I don't know easily how to best implement this... but something like, doing a loan of RC to the post in order to allow people to upvote (downvote should be excluded).

That would mean that for longer curations periods, people doing the post would be supporting everyone curation... and that should incentivise staking HIVE to get more RC.

Or rent RC...

With always the fact that downvoting could kill all the value... but that's already the case anyway.

Still brewing through the idea. Need more experts...

Having the reward locked for 1 year is an extremely long period for crypto. It's like an equivalent of a century elsewhere.

Most newbies would be discouraged from opening accounts, and these who don't want to invest first will be repulsed - they will have zero curation rewards, and zero chance to earn for that year.

Thanks for the feedback...

I will just add... the 1 year was an "option" not a mandatory value.

The idea relies on "can we make curation period flexible"

Then most people will still stick to the current model I guess. Browsing old content is extremely user-unfriendly, and you will hardly get any extra votes more than that week since publishing the post anyway.

I disagree...

For me the long term has use cases, that on #hive are not being contemplated.

Guides, documentaries... etc... just look at youtube use case. I have a video with 200k views because people keep finding it interesting over years...

YT lets you find any video of any age easily. Can you simply access your 2019 posts without googling the exact title here on Hive?

Front ends would have to adapt to that in the first place.

Yes, lots might need changing... I am trying to understand the value long term... short term things never going to evolve if we just restrict thoughts about it.

I can find those videos though... but I agree it depends on skills...

Its how you present that would matter. But eventually the ultimate reason is to modify the base rule option.

So yes... adaptation needed everywhere...

Crypto short term lacks vs web2 too also... so that's a weakness. And overwhelming this would drive a lot of users from those platforms to a crypto platform that can allow that too.

Crypto is a fast pace segment where we see a lot fluctuation and keeping the reward locked for 1 year is too long period. I think 7 days isna good time. It may be god for some but not for many at the same time and they might get discouraged because of this extremely long period. Just my thoughts

I think you missed my point... "what if each person could set it on their posts" individually

At least a month or 3 months..

If I take 3 weeks off and want to catch up on a bunch of posts I should be able to vote on them

Well, this would be done at author side, and to my point, some might want less long curation periods, some others longer ones.
